I'm about to cry...

We did his AMPS and I only have a few strips left that came with the meter so I wanted to compare one of those to the new batch...

Old strip: 363
New strip: 397
Old strip 2: 443

My head is spinning.

It was the same drop of blood... tested right away as soon as the meter gave a number.

I don't understand this.

The FDA allows meters to be way off. It sounds crazy and it made my head spin too. The main thing is that the lower the number the more accurate the reading.
Don't let this get you down, it's happened to all of us and it's true of human meters as well.
Always check expiry dates on your strips and change your meter's battery well before it goes dead. You can stop crying, I've done enough for both of us over these "scientific" instruments.

Thank you so much. This was the batch that came with the meter we just got like a week ago and a new batch of strips we just got. Both expire in 2020. His #s have always seemed consistent... his "curve" I did WAS a perfect curve of down and then back up , his three amps before we started insulin were all around each other, etc. This is all so confusing.

It's not confusing, it's life with a cat. Remember he's not sick, he just has a condition.
Curves! Our first sugar cat had textbook curves, a bell-curve that looked like I had plagiarized it from Wikipedia. Our second cat was a mess with curves that looked like your kid had taken a crayon to the wall.
You're in the right place, doing the right thing. There is no such thing as a stupid question here, we've all been there. :)

Our Jasper, aka The Bowling Ball when he loafed. You have enough on your mind already, no reply is necessary.

Also not sure how true it is but I was told by a meter manufacturer back to back to back even with same drop can throw meter off some.

Also the first 2 are considered close at that level, the 3rd may have been an oddball strip.

That's all I could think of for being that far off back to back same drop... that it was too fast for the meter or something.
