Hi, I've seen many posts in which a spreadsheet is mentioned. Could someone tell me where I can find this?
Thanks.
Deirdre

It will also help us help you if you add a signature that includes info about your cat such as date of diagnosis, which insulin you are using, diet, any other health issues, medications and which protocol you are using once you decide.

I certainly will. I have a fabulous supportive vet and I've learned quite a lot already from her and all of the posts here, but to be honest it's nice to know there is support here for the late nights (monitoring a low bg right now at midnight) and weekends when the vet is unavailable. There is a wealth of experience here and it is reassuring to know I can ask you guys questions. FD is certainly a steep learning curve and I have a lot to learn still.

That’s great. My vet was very supportive as well. My first low numbers were in the middle of the night and the help here was invaluable. You are far braver than I was, lol. I posted my numbers every test my first pj parties and chatted was others until Max was on his way up. I hope you can call it a night soon.

Deirdre, I just finished responding to your Introduction message, and saw that you are finding your way around. Excellent! It is a steep learning curve, but I think you are up to the challenge.

I'm getting there, Jerry's curve seems to continue to go down even +12 so when he gets his PM dose it drops even lower. This evening at 9:30 he got down to 62 his lowest number ever so out came the FF gravy lovers and it is now starting to rise. Now at 147 so phew!. He'll be up in the 400's by morning. This seems to be his pattern the last couple of days. He doesn't seem to understand his old Mom needs her beauty sleep lol. I'll see what happens the next few days, do another curve and see what the vet suggests. This could just be him adjusting to the new 2.5IU dose.

I doubt anyone can give input on dosing without a spreadsheet. If you can get it going with even just the dosing for the last week or two that would be helpful.

Welcome Dierdre & Jerry!

62-400 is a big bounce, 2.5u might be too much juice. SS will help the pros here give suggestions (I am no pro!).
Well after an almost sleepless night Jerry's BG was only 202 this morning which is a lot better than the 400's I've been seeing. I will continue to monitor his levels and do another curve on him in a few days. I will set up the spreadsheet when i get a chance. Hopefully he won't have crazy numbers this evening..we both need a break and his poor little ears must be like swiss cheese at this point.

Just created Jerry's spreadsheet and it's awful. I panicked again last pm and didn't give a shot as his preshot number was so low. In hindsight i probably should have.

Welcome to the group!

With the drop below 90, Jerry's dose needs to be lowered to 2.25u. With SLGS, 90 is the point where a dose is reduced. With Jerry's bounce into the stratosphere, it's fine to hold the previous dose for one more cycle and then reduce his dose at PM shot time.

Thank you. Are you suggesting the PM dose as he seems to have lower numbers overnight? I plan to discuss his numbers with the vet tomorrow as the 60's and 50's I've had recently gave me the heebie jeebies. I don't know whether to give him his PM shot when he is that low. I've panicked twice and skipped a dose, then his numbers are terrible next day and I feel like I've let him down poor guy. His numbers today
6am ps 506
8am 531
10am 284
12 am 295
2 pm 333
6pm ps 174
9:30 pm 53
Just gave him a teaspoon of ff gravy.
I'll test him again shortly.
It's just crazy...

Deirdre, can you record the 67 BG and the 55 BG at the proper +hour cell on the spreadsheet? Clock time is not always useful, it's only 8:30 pm where I am.
I'm looking at the SS and don't see a PMPS, or an insulin dosage for this evening. If he keeps going down, bless his little heart, then people are going to need to see what's happened.

Oh of course, stupid of me. Not thinking straight. Not in full blown panic just concerned right now.

Pmps = 174 gave his dose of 2.5 IU
+ 3.30 = 53
+ 4.00 = 67
+ 5.00 = 55 just gave him some temptation treats.
+ 5.30 = 59
Think i'll try some ff gravy again.
I'm on my phone right now, will have to fire up the computer to update the spreadsheet. Give me a little while.Hope this is okay in the meantime.
:(

No, not stupid at all. Just working with what you have. I am fortunate that I can update the SS on my cell phone. Came in real handy when I was using my Amazon Fire tablet and couldn't use the Google apps to do that, before I dusted off the laptop and got it updated and all.
I learned something the other day about the lower numbers, and was helping a member that was concerned about a BG of 53. We were in hypo mode, and another member kindly informed us that it was ok, it was a good number at that hour, and instead of offering the HC treats or food, to offer some LC food to gently steer if concerned. That way you aren't jump starting the BG way up again.
I don't know Jerry's history, and you do, just something that occurred to me when I read that you gave the Temptations and will give the gravy.

We need to get some help to fix the top row of your spreadsheet, so the +hour row shows when you scroll down through the grid. That's for tomorrow, but if you remember, PM Marje and Gracie for some assistance with that.

That's interesting. Jerry seems to have his lowest numbers at night (joy of joys). Not sure he would be too interested in the lc food at this time but always has room for gravy and treats. He seems pretty content right now, wish i was as laid back. I have updated the spreadsheet just now and will continue to add the numbers as i gather them. ;)

Top rows are now fixed(frozen). Makes it easier to read.

I have read that most cats go lower at night. So, he's probably very typical in that respect. But, that doesn't give you much comfort if you don't know how low he's going to go. I am not experienced, but I don't see any lime greens there, that indicate "too low", just those nice regular greens. It would be nice if you could get some sleep sometime soon, though.

No kidding, after the other night I had a little heart to heart with him but I guess he didn't take me serious. At least I don't feel lonesome with you guys here.:)

Well his BG is finally starting to go up. +6 =95. Will continue to check as my little man likes to keep things interesting to say the least.:)

+7 = 113
Relaxing a bit now, but will get at least one more test before getting some sleep.

Pmps = 174 gave his dose of 2.5 IU

You should have taken the reduction tonight instead of shooting the 2.5

On SLGS, if they drop below 90 (which he did yesterday), that's a reduction in dose down to 2.25

Now this morning, when he'd bounced to black, it was fine to give the 2.5U dose ONE more time (we call it "shooting through the bounce") but tonight's shot should have been 2.25

Something to remember for "next time".....he seems to clear his bounces FAST!!

He certainly wants to keep me on my toes. I thought he would have to show a few 90's before reduction. Anyway live and learn. I set up the spreadsheet today which is fab. Great overview of his pattern and great to have the reference. Beats my lists. I plan to talk to his vet tomorrow and i'll show her the spreadsheet. I'll do the reduction in the morning and see what that gives him. Still trying to find the sweet spot. Would love to see his BG a little more even instead of the huge swings. Does anyone do larger doses mornings and lower doses evenings?

You've only been on Lantus about 6 weeks.....it was several months before I started to get something that resembled a pattern for China.

We did Tight Regulation instead of SLGS which allows more frequent dose increases if the current dose isn't getting them where we want them, but it's important on both dosing methods to take the reductions when they're earned.

Would love to see his BG a little more even instead of the huge swings

Bouncing is normal and all part of the sugardance. It can take up to 6 cycles for some cats to clear a bounce but he seems to clear them fast!

Does anyone do larger doses mornings and lower doses evenings?

We find that Lantus generally works best when given at the same dose both AM and PM. Some insulins work better with a "sliding scale" but here, we encourage consistent dosing for both shots.

Thank you, more information for me to store. Just trying hard to educate myself for my sanity and little Jerry's sake. Another 20 mins and i'll get the next BG. I think looking at his previous pattern he'll have gone up again. Let's see if I'm right or whether I've jinxed myself.:)

+8 = 175.
Now I can take a deep breath an relax. Might get a few hours sleep until the dance begins again. Thank you Lou and Chris for keeping me company tonight. Really appreciate it so much. Nite nite.:bighug:
