Walgreens recently told me that one small container of Lantus is only effective for a month. I had been told by my vet that it would be effective for several months and my 14 year old orange tabby cat has been managed on lantus for 2 years ( with two intervals of remission)

I have noticed in the past month that my cat’s glucose levels are higher , than previously when they were stable with the same diet and same amount of Lantus.

Has anyone had a similar experience?

Thank you.

Actually the manufacturer does say is good for 28 days but and this is a big but if once opened it is kept at room temperature, if it's been in the fridge all the time it will last a lot longer even after it has been opened, the ones that are unopened will last until the expiration date they have marked

Still if the pen/vial you are using has been opened for a long time it could lose some potency so if this is the case you may want to consider changing to a new one

Lantus should be good for 6 months in the frig. How old is your insulin? Does it have any floaters in the insulin or is it clear?
If you are finding higher numbers and the insulin is ok, your kitty may need an increase of 0.25 unit.
I’d check the insulin first.
