? Full Extraction-any experience

Hi guys,
My sweet George went in for a dental today and I found out late this afternoon that I wasn't able to bring him home due to them doing a full mouth extraction on him. I was pretty upset when they told me simply because I wasn't at all prepared for that, but I know he'll feel so much better after. Just wondering if anyone has any experience with extractions, particularly full. Anything to expect? Anything to watch for? Any words of support, haha. I'm feeling better, but still emotional about it.
 
I haven't had a cat with a full extraction, but a friend recently did and less than a week later her cat was trying to eat the other one's kibble even though she has no teeth anymore and so is on a soft food diet forever now.

So she at least recovered fast enough to go back to being a cheeky thief.
 
My Gideon had all of his teeth pulled in 2016 ("bad dental genetics"). He would have been about 5. I was worried as well but it hasn't slowed him down - he can eat soft, dry, treats - everything. Be sure to ask about side effects of any meds. I remember getting him home and about losing my mind because he could barely stand and was REALLY out of it. I called immediately and they said, "oh yeah that's normal." It was and it wore off and he recovered without any issues!
 
Aw man, I've been worried sick about my cat all day and they only ended pulling one. (A few more are in early stages I have to keep an eye on) I'd be horrified as well about them pulling all of them without notifying me. They did quote low end and high end, but noone expects the whole mouth! Hope your kitty has a speedy recovery. Lots of hugs to you as well!

I’ll definitely ask about meds! Thank you! At the earliest I can take him home tomorrow after lunch and I’m hoping he won’t be too loopy still. Thankful we’ll have all weekend to watch him before going back to work.

I’m so glad to hear that! Mine is still under care at the vet. I got to bring him home for a little over 12 hours before having to take him back. He had a lot of discharge and wasn’t eating so they gave him an antibiotic shot. Haven’t gotten an update yet this morning, but I’m hoping for better news than yesterday.
 
Oh, I am so sorry to hear that. I hope the discharge clears up and you can take him home again. I'm sure it might take him a little longer to get over the pain. Hope he feels more like himself soon.

I brought him home today! He looks so much better than he did. Poor guys has had it rough lately, but I'm thinking we're moving past the worst of it now. I hope Beast is doing well!

It was a complete shock. Still is, to be honest, but I'm very hopeful that he will improve dramatically once he's all healed. Apparently all but four of his teeth had resportive lesions so he's probably been in a lot of pain and will be much happier now.

He is not limping anymore (I think from the shots and IV) and he has used all of his pain and anti-inflammatory meds. She gave him 4 days worth and although he is eating well, I didn't put as much water in his pate this evening and he actually had a tear in his eye. I have never seen a cat cry before. He was also licking his lips/chops a lot after as well. I will be sure to keep adding more water for a few more days. I guess even though he only got one removed, the rest are also sensitive from the cleaning. His numbers are still doing ok. He climbed a bit over the weekend I think due to the stress of my sister moving in and probably still having pain. I hope they gave your kitty enough pain meds for more than a few days.
 
I have had two cats with chronic feline stomatitis. The only hope of a cure is to have all the teeth extracted. After the extractions (and the initial healing), she became a different cat because she was no longer in pain. I was already feeding a 100% can diet, so having no teeth didn't slow them down a bit. In addition to the can food, I now offer them a small amount of dry food each day. Both of them eat it with no problems! I hope your kitty is doing well!

He got at least a week and half worth of pain meds. I can definitely tell when they've worn off so I'm glad they gave me extra to bring home. I sure hope yours continues to feel better and isn't in too much pain! If he got a good report about his teeth hopefully he won't have to have another dental for a little while.

I love reading positive reports from kitties with no teeth! Definitely makes me feel good about mine. I think he's going to be much happier once he's healed. I already feel like he's better than before.

Well they said he did have small lesions / defects on other teeth, but I'd need to take him to a specialist for those if he continues to have pain once the others have fully healed. Making his pate soupy seemed to help this morning. I will be keeping a sharp eye on him. I really hope more won't have to go any time soon. He gets pretty traumatized at the vet. He has to be sedated for everything.
