Feeling defeated. BG readings high again

i am wondering why Gizmo's numbers are so good one cycle and then the next two cycles his numbers keep increasing. This is so frustrating. Just when I think i am getting a handle on how he will react to the insulin he does the exact opposite. I thought that his numbers would be in the blues this evening since that has been the trend the last 3 PM cycles, but his numbers are high again. I am feeling defeated and don't know how much more of this roller coaster i can take. I love my fur baby so much and I just want him to feel better and I don't feel like I am helping him.
 
Don't look at each number as a failure or success. First of all there's a limit to what you can control. Second, when I look at your spreadsheet from a few weeks ago I see solid pinks. Now I'm seeing a generous sprinkling of yellow and blues. I'd say that's an improvement. My cat didnt even see a yellow number the first 8 weeks. This is a marathon not a sprint
 
Heather, regulating a diabetic cat has no set time line in which you will suddenly see Gizmo present a steady stream of "good" numbers. As Janet says, this is a marathon....not a sprint. Look at the pattern rather than individual readings. Looks to me like Gizmo is definitely making progress toward better regulation and you should be celebrating that progress rather than worrying about those higher numbers.

Think of this as a dance with Gizmo leading. He's making up the steps as he goes because he has to re-learn that lower BG is not a threat. Your job is to follow his lead. As he gets more comfortable being in better numbers, his body will learn that it doesn't need to overreact and you will see the colour pattern gradually change to include more of those lovely blues and greens and figuring out his dance steps will get easier.
 
Thank you so much for talking me off the cliff. I think I am just over emotional because he had an episode of aggression towards me yesterday that was uncharacteristic of him. He attacked my legs and then he followed me around the house with his tail thrashing and a low meow. My husband thought it was because i was backing away from him, but when i sat down he just attacked my arm. My husband had to yell at him. He then went to my husband and was all lovey dovey with him, which is uncharacteristic. Just a few minutes before this episode he was super hyper and running around the house, he ate some food, calmed down. I had laid down in bed and he came and he came and got me and he went and sat by the back door which he does alot. He used to be indoor/outdoor cat but has been indoor for at least two years now. I will pick him up and take him outside in my arms for some fresh air. I attempted to do this and that is when he got aggessive. I was worried about his BG so when he allowed me to pick him up again i did the BG reading and it was 453. He urinated just after that so i did a ketone check and it was negative. He has been fine ever since, so I am just overwhelmed right now. I just don't know what to expect from him.

Thanks again for reminding me that he is just adjusting to the lower numbers and that he is improving. I am grateful that i am seeing yellows and blues. I am grateful for the support of the people on this forum and the knowledge that all of you have and are willing to take the time out of your day to help us newbies out. I hope one day that i will have as much knowledge as the rest of you and will be able to pay it forward to newbies in the future.
 
Yes, this is really hard. You'll get there. :bighug: As the saying goes, slow and steady wins the race. Teasel is generally a very easy going cat but will sometimes be a little grumpy when his BG is high. It could be another ECID thing - some cats get grumpier than others. Monitor his behaviour to see if you find a correlation with his BG level and maybe discuss it with your vet.
 
Just curious.....when Gizmo displayed this aggressive behaviour yesterday, where was he in the cycle? He has had some significant ups and downs in his BG lately and it could just be that he's reacting to how he is feeling. Chances are good this is a one off situation but it's good to note any odd behaviour like this for future reference and pay attention to what is happening with his BG any time he starts acting significantly different from his norm.
 
Thank you again to both of you. His aggressive behavior was around +1. I will continue to monitor this. I pray it doesn't happen again. It is the first time he scared me. He was not going to let me get away. Luckily my husband was there to break his attention from me. His last two readings are in the yellow and blue. I am happy about that. His behavior is back to normal, so I am not as emotional. Again, I really appreciate all of you.

Glad he's acting normal. Maybe it was temporary misplaced aggression.
 
Make a mental note of this behaviour and monitor him to see if he gets grumpy, if not outright aggressive, when his BG is higher. I'm sure we'd all be shocked if our kitty turned on us in such an obvious way.

My cats usually get along, but I've seen one get into full aggressive spitting and scratching mode while sick and the other gets too close. Alex once got spooked by something in the living room (still have no idea what) and refused to come down the hallway from the bedrooms for an entire day and would just slink back terrified if we tried to bring him out, and then he eventually just got over it on his own. Cats are weird and we can't ask them why they're upset so the best we can do is guess and hope it doesn't happen again.
 
i really wish they could speak. It really would make all of this a little easier. He has my unconditional love no matter how he treats me. Thanks again everyone for being there. How are all of your furbabies doing? I would really love to hear some of their stories.
