February 9, 2019 Condo - A day at the beach turns into the bounce from hell....
Good morning all,
I am absolutely flabbergasted, dismayed, and a bit horrified with Lou's AMPS this morning. I got 534 originally, and thought this must absolutely be wrong, but when I retested I got 544. This is basically the same number he was at when he was diagnosed (the second test was higher than when he was diagnosed). Why would a long-term diabetic who bounces to pinks, and recently to reds on occasion all of a sudden bounce so high? He's previously gone two cycles without insulin and wasn't this high. I reviewed his spreadsheet, he's only been in the 500s once before since diagnosis, and that was in November 2017 when he wasn't eating and I couldn't give insulin. Come to find out he had a UTI with struvite crystals.
I know our kitties are more than their BGs, but I'm trying not to feel overwhelmed or inescapably sad about this. If it took him 6 full cycles to clear a bounce to the 400s, how long is it going to take him to come down from this one? 6? 8? 10?? I'm sure I haven't had any furshots lately, and even contraband hasn't ever made him go this high before... I feel so stupid being sad over one bad BG number, but it's a pretty awful number, and usually Lou is not so cruel to me.
I hope you all have a wonderful day and your kitties stay safe. I'm going to try not to wallow and enjoy my Sunday.
