Increased dose this morning, he is now on 3 units! Hopefully we'll put all those BLACK numbers in the garbage! Have a nive day everybody!!

At PMPS I realised that we must have a garbage can full of old goodies, because BLACK numbers are sticking to the bottom!! Here's what Ti-Mousse got when trying to kick them out :blackeye: !

Wonkiness already ? He hardly went down .... We'll see later tonight! not good.. maybe better tomorrow !!

It's one o’clock.. going to bed trying to dream of Ti-Mousse surfing on BLUE clouds!!!

+7 is the lowest pink T-Mousse has had! Looks like the increase is bringing his bg down :) Sooner or later ,if you want to keep him safe, you will need to start testing at night. A lot of the people here work full time. Maybe look at their SS to see how they handle PM testing?

I know I have to test later at night but for now his numbers are very high. To be able to do later testing, I'll have to change his schedule and this is part of my plan! I'll bring my shot times up by 15 minutes per cycle until the perfect timing!

H Lyane, been missing you and Ti-Mousse here. :bighug: I hope you are testing daily for ketones. No insulin and an infection are a very bad combination. The ABs should be working by now and he definitely looks like he needs insulin.

@Crista & Ming

It feels so good to see we’re not alone; my Ti-Mousse or "Ti" is happy to have good friends or angels :cat:
I’m there on the Forum but I don’t want to bother anybody unless I’m really stuck which is what’s coming up soon …

Many problems I’m trying to find solutions for:

1st problem: Did not find a good vet up to now! ( unfortunately you can’t help for that!)
Action: Have an appointment with my wonderful ophthalmologist for Pépé, my other kitty (probably melanome of the eye and if so, eye removal :( hopefully not, but we’ll see !!) ; might get reference for dentist or vet from ophtalmo then !!!

2nd problem: Bad breath – dental infection for sure

Action: Quit insulin and start AB.
If BG goes down during treatment : dental is really the culprit and has to be done now.
If I had kept him on insulin while on AB, I might have thought insulin kicks in; now there’s no question, if it goes down even a little ( he did not have any reds for a long time) it’s dental for sure.
Last time on AB, vet made me quit after 6 days because of diarrhea. This time he will go on for the whole 10 days; I looked up the Forum and bought Florastor which seems to be good for diarrheas.

3rd problem: Shots (Ti-Mousse is growling, hiding and biting when shooting time comes; that’s a huge problem; unfortunately, he doesn’t care for treats…)

Action: Not the proper insulin ?
Was thinking of switching to Levemir because of the stinging of Lantus ( Does it sting? Don’t know, he didn’t tell me… ;) but he hates it, hides everywhere and he is such a sweet little kitty usually. I haven’t seen him that way ever ! Right now, without insulin, he’s lively and playing like a little kitten all day; on insulin, he doesn’t do anything and he lays down in his bed almost all day long!

4th problem: Accromegaly? (Ti-Mousse is always in black #s since on 3 units; having problems to go down. If OK after dental, good; otherwise, maybe thinking of accromegaly ?? )

Action: Might be a little early to test, anyway to vet yet ? He has a big hard belley though, maybe if he loses weight it’s going to go away !!

Thanks for being there; it's such a relief to think you can count on people who knows !! :bighug:

I don't have much advice but it's so nice to hear from you, Lyane. And please, don't feel like you're burdening the forum with your questions ever. This place is for everyone to learn from each other. You should feel okay about asking even the smallest questions.

I'm sorry you haven't found a good vet. I hope the ophthalmologist (wowza, that's a big word lol) has some good references and Pépé's appointment goes well. You have a lot going on with your kitties. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Glad you are still here. :bighug: And checking for ketones. If you Note it on the spreadsheet, we will stop asking. ;) While he is off of insulin, I would check every day. Ketones can go from trace to large in a matter of hours, and Ti definitely needs insulin. Any infection might make it more hard to regulate (bounce more) but treating the infection doesn’t do away with the need for insulin. I would try Levemir as soon as possible. Lantus can sting and why he objects to shots. Without insulin he is also harming his organs and developing glucose toxicity, meaning potentially an even higher dose. I wouldn’t worry about high dose conditions just yet, but rather focus on getting his blood sugar under control.

Good luck with the eye vet. We have had a couple people here with kitties who had to have eyes removed and might be able to share their experiences if that ends up what you have to do,

Yes my kitties are not cooperating lately... I lost one in May (CKD), Pépé with melanome and Ti-Mousse with diabetes; the only healthy one is my little girl of 17 years old and she's the one running the place :) Thanks for your good words; I will try Levemir, maybe it's the sting of Lantus that he feels and makes him afraid of shots.

As you suggested, I'll restart insulin tomorrow morning. I shopped all afternoon to get Levemir; went to 2 Walmarts and 1 drugstore - they wouldn't sell it to me because I didn't have a prescription, even if we don't need any in Canada. Finally got it at another Walmart after discussing for half hour. In Quebec, nothing is easy ....:banghead: So I got the 5x3ml cartridges of Levemir. I was wondering about the dosage; on the Forum it says 70% of Lantus dosage; would I start him at 2 or 2.1 ? (he was on 3 units of Lantus) Hopefully, it'll go better with the shooting, and BTW I did check for ketones but missed the target, I'll have to catch him later.

You could start with 2 units. You could go higher cause he was still seeing fairly high numbers on Lantus, but we can fast track if he seems stuck at 2 units. Plus some cats show a strong reaction to an insulin switch, so best be safe.

Why don't you start a new post when you start the new insulin. Best of luck!

Definitely, I'll start a new post tomorrow with 2 units of Levemir. Thank you so much for all your help, it's such a relief. Merci from my Ti-Mousse xx
