I just love that I can see his little fangs against his dark fur.

Don’t disturb the hibernating black bear. No wait, red Bear by one point.:rolleyes:

I think you’d be fine to increase again when convenient. When we get to five units, the suggestion is increasing by 0.5 units, unless you are tweaking a dose that has some gre n already.

Well, we will have to keep it close to 10 units a day until his Insulin order comes in. I only have 80 units left in the pen after today.
Mark's said I could receive the order in 3 to 5 business days.
My order was placed the 22nd.

So as dramatic as Bear bounces at times you think 0.5 increases are best?
I am fine with 0.5 increases but keep in mind starting Monday the amount of testing I can usually do is going to decrease.

@Wendy&Neko
Bears first Hypo, +4=41 I tested him twice and he was very unhappy about that.
I gave him 15cc of honey and it is his meal time so I feed him his 5% food.
I am moving his schedule up so I shot him 30 Min early and gave him a fat 5u.

@Wendy&Neko
I actually feel pretty calm.
I am a little irritated, because since we were talking about a 0.5 increase I didn't think a 30 min early (like a dose increase) would bring him to hypo.

Hey Lora

I’m up for a few. How can I help you?

That 499 today followed by a pink PMPS is what we call the high before the break. It’s a good idea to get a +2 test every cycle that you can. If the +2 is similar to or lower than the PS, it’s going to be an active cycle. I bet his +2 was a nose dive.

I hope you fed a couple tsp of HC with the 41 and retest 30 mins later.

Lol! I'm not sure. 9 more points isn't much of an increase with honey and 1.6 oz of food.
Do you think I should give him gravy too?

I gave him honey and his Low Carb meal as it was his regular meal time with the Hypo.
He usually Nadirs at +4 but since today his Nadir would have been his PMPS at 315 I haven't a clue what how his BG will go.

So I shot him 30 minutes early and did a fat 5u.
Shooting 30 minutes early was not a problem and didn’t cause this. You increased the dose as he was clearing a bounce and that’s always going to cause some “commotion”. You might very well find the reduction won’t hold. But getter to be safe until you know his cycles on Lantus better.

Bron said she’d hang with you and I’m going to check on a cat on Health.

Love your calm attitude!!! :bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

His ears were very difficult to test, even with massage very little was coming out.
So these tests will take a min to figure out to put on his SS. :)

Well I guess it is a slight increase but when she says to reduce the dose she would have meant to downto 4.75..
When she said to go down from 5 to 4.75 you said "you were giving 4.75' ....can you clarify that please:)

LOL! Sorry I was at +4.75 at testing. Too much confusion with missing posts.

I really appreciate both of you and your help and companionship. :bighug::bighug::bighug:
It is 1:32 AM here and I will be good for at least 2 and a half hours.
If you guys want to get some sleep, I would totally understand. XOXO

Sorry I missed the excitement. Looks like Bear responds well to the dose increase threats! :eek:
Bears first Hypo, +4=41
What symptoms did Bear show? Typically we call this a low numbers event unless there are actual hypo symptoms. Non diabetic cats can test in the 40's, we just don't want cats getting insulin to go there.

Congrats on the reduction. How fat was that 5 units tonight?

Make sure you take good notes on how much and what you fed tonight. I used to put it in the Remarks section on the SS. That way the next time (and there will be more times) that Bear goes low, you have an idea what food/honey combination worked, and what different. Cats are different in how carb sensitive they are.

Well the most significant difference was when I picked Bear up to test him and he kept trying to crawl off my lap onto the ckn Treat bag. Then he growled at me when I made him stay in my lap.
He acted frantic. Then when I saw the 41 I knew why.

He was more active a few minutes before but I thought Yep, it is almost time for your test and food. He was going to his food bowl and then followed me, then back to his food bowl.

That Fat 5 was fat. I think it was pretty close to a 5.25. I could see just a little insulin below the 5 line. :rolleyes:

Good to know there weren't any more severe symptoms. The hunger is natural and as it's a good way for them to let us know it's time for a test.

On the dose, I had wondered what you should reduce to. Sounds like back to a straight 5.0 units.

When I pulled his insulin and got the bubble out plus the air out there was about 1 line equal of insulin showing below the 5.

Could you summarize the last bit of test and feed? ie:

+4.25 41 gave 15cc honey and 1.6 oz LC
+4.5 50
+4.75 66 "some gravy" (number tsp?)
+5 67

Am I missing any tests of food/honey since then? You'll want to be up for a least a couple hours after that first low. Honey/gravy can wear off and the numbers can come back down.

Also, it helps to keep the subject line up to date. You can get rid of the AMPS test numbers if you run out of room.
