Its hard to believe Davidson has been gone close to 5 months and like all of us who have lots our loved pets it’s time we will never get back. Harley was also diagnosed with RKD the Same gimme Davidson was (last Aug) and it’s slowly getting worse according to bloodwork in Nov., and he also shows signs of cancer and given less then 6 months. He also had a bleeding ulcer and that was looked after. In early Dec. Harley was walking with problems and a vet visit showed extremely bad arthritis in his hips, so needless to say with this and the other issues he was given less then then a couple of mins and went on Tramodol and Onsiar. He since gone off the Onsiar but has an increased dose of Tramodol and started on Amitriptyline (happy pill) as he started having psychological issues at the LB thinking that was causing his pain.
It got to be so heartbreaking during the Xmas holidays that on a few occasion I took him to the vet to say goodbye!! The vet said he was not ready and we changed the dose.
I can honestly say he’s been great since, but I’m not blinded by the issues he has and is steadily declining. It’s week by week and I can see the arthritis getting worse, and the RKD increasing his drinking and peeing. There will be no more vets or any more meds...he has a comfortable and still acceptable quality of life and that is Latham matters. I cancelled my 23rd holiday in Barbados this January to be with him, so we are having a good time!! Considering he’ll go in to be 17, I am fortunate to have it had any medical issues with him until now.
Harley never had FD, so I didn’t think it was right to post anything on his situation, but thanks for asking!!
WE all experience situations that are beyond our control, some are easier to deal with then others and I’ve peeked in here periodically and see how many are doing. Sadly there are always new members and others we have lost. It’s a vicious circle but we all share one thing - the love, dedications and willingness to do anything we can for our beloved cats!!
For the newbies out there, it does get easier and we’ve all been there at some point. Keep fighting and being there and LOVE your cats (or pets) as one day they are gone. Take videos and pictures, and he’s they all look the same but at last you have them.
Cherish your memories, in the end that is all you will have and know that all you did your best. It’s all you can ever ask!
