High in AM - Low in PM - dose?

We gradually have been reducing the amount of "dry food" (Young Again Mature Zero) for Hershey. The past 3 days. We noticed immediately that his "normal" numbers of between 220-270 were dramatically reduced to a lower pm reading of around 110-130 and a higher am of around 230-250. In the past if he had anything lower than 170 I didn't shoot. His normal dose was 1.1 unit am and pm. So 2.4 per day. So obviously I haven't given him any insulin with the lower pm numbers. I am still giving him his 1.0 unit in the morning. I am concerned however about him not having anything for 12 hours after his pm reading. I don't feel comfortable giving him anything when he is that low. I am convinced that if we had taken ALL dry food away 3 year's ago, he may have gone into remission or at least lowered his numbers. He is hopelessly addicted to dry food.

Forgive me because I do not keep up with spread sheet, I have a notebook at home I use daily. If anyone has come across please help.

He has always ate the FF classic pates. Sometimes he gets dried chicken and tuna flakes for a treat. Cat grass and nip as well.

If the PM reading is often lower than the AM that can be a sign if increased duration of the insulin dose. Sometimes that happens when the dose is a bit too high. What's often suggested is to reduce the dose a little so you get two PSs that are high enough to shoot.

So currently he is getting 1.1 unit of Prozinc in the AM, give him .50 and then .50 in the PM even if he is lower?

Are you using U100 syringes to give the ProZinc? If so, I'd try 0.8 u AM and PM. Otherwise try 0.75 u AM and PM if you have U40s with half unit marks. That small reduction in the AM might leave him high enough to give the same dose PM.

As you accumulate a lot of data over time it's worth trying to give insulin on a slightly lower PS, say 150. Skipping a dose when the PS is *probably* high enough to give insulin can be counterproductive. Whether or not you can give a full dose on a lower PS is something you learn by doing these experiments with dosing on lower numbers.

Thank you for all your good information and your reply. His pre-shot tonight was 140 and I gave him .5 and use the U40 needles, We will check him in three hours

It’s been three hours since his pre-shot and he was 155 so I think we’re going to be OK he’s usually fed around 12 Before my daughters go to sleep and then we’re up at five
 
Update on Hershey, after giving him .50 since last Friday, he is consistently at around 210-230 again. I have increased his dose to .75 units x 2 since yesterday and will see how that does for a week. Not sure why the low for three days last week, but he seems to be regulated again. I will always hope for remission, wishing he didn't have to endure anymore pokes.....:(
 
Hi Judy - I know you're keeping the data in a notebook, but if you wanted to update a spreadsheet (or maybe it would be easier to start a new one?), we would be happy to take a look and see if we can help.
