I'm usually good with bits and bytes but I cant read this wave/movements of numbers.... can you please explain to me why staying on 4U waiting for some more time wouldn't be a good strategy?
I will try my best to explain. Each of our cats bodies is trying to compensate/adjust to having a defective system. The bodies main goal is to survive. If our cats are surviving on higher BG levels when we change the insulin levels and lower the BG levels in the beginning this makes their body off kilter, it is like a surprise, and it uses the insulin more efficiently.
The cat's body reacts for self preservation and had adapted living on higher BG levels so it strives to bring the body back to the higher BG levels and it does.
At this point they call this Insulin toxicity. Your cat's BG levels rise and then go flat. The cat has adjusted to the amount of Insulin and later the BG levels will rise again.
The longer a cat's body is left at the wrong BG levels the more it establishes this as a self preservation point and it takes longer to break the cat's body out of holding onto these BG levels.
There are times during this process when the BG levels lower for a short period of time but it doesn't last because self preservation is the strongest and highest priority of a living thing and the body had established this at higher BG levels.
The dosage of insulin has to continue to increase until the cat's body has had a sufficient amount of time in lower BG levels to establish a new self preservation point. A self preservation point that is the correct BG levels to work efficiently.
During the time a cat is kept in lower more correct BG levels the pancreas has an opportunity to heal.
When you look at multiple SS you will see a pattern of dose increases to larger doses, decreases, then increases with smaller dosages then decreases.
This is very simplified because the body is not simple and many other things affect BG levels, infections, thyroid.....
It is imperative to continue increasing dosage in small dosages until the cat's body adjusts its self preservation point to an appropriate BG level.
A psychological comparison would be if a cat wasn't used to a lot of people and became terrified when a new person came to your home. In order to modify his reaction you would slowly bring new people to your home, possibly giving him treats and over time increase the amount and frequency of people visiting your home. If you tried to rush this process and say have 4 or five people come over in the beginning it would only cause a larger amount of stress to the cat and would only make things worse.
This is my interpretation and understanding.
