Nice sunny start for Yoyo. I hope he slides down and surfs today. It's possible the syringes having the zero lines being different has caused his numbers to be a little higher. But you can't beat yourself up about that. Syringes are awful in their lines being consistent. That's why I suggested trying calipers. You're doing great with Yoyo.

Nice lower start for Yoyo. Hope he gives you a nice surf today.

I didn't throw out my syringes. I just ignore the lines on the syringe.

I agree on trying the calipers, or finding a measuring method that works for you. I use my microscope, and Bailey's dose is easy to spot without measuring. When her dose changes, I will most likely get out a marker and make a line on a sheet of paper and use that as a guide under the syringe.

In either case, you would be ignoring the markings on he syringes so you wouldn't need to throw out the ones that don't line up.

Yoyo's dose is easy to see also on the syringe as I use an over the head magnifyer and it works great. Do you throw out the syringes that don't stop at the zero line?
I have thought of using the calibers, but to me it seems like more work and again accuracy plays a role if I don't line up the caliber exactly each day on the syringe and measure correctly from where the plunger stopper ends.
I have purchased Monoject syringes, I have not used them yet as I am not sure that the .25 unit will be consistant with the .25 unit on the BD syringes. I would like to get Yoyo more stable in his numbers and then try the monoject syringes. The monoject syringes seem to stop on the zero line, seem more accurate!

Hey Debra! I am another vote for calipers. All the different manufacture of syringes can be off as much as .25 of a unit! That is a big difference when giving a smaller dose like you are doing.

Once you get the calipers and get them set up, you don't have to change the setting until the dose changes. I have a cheat sheet I use for the different doses starting at 0.1 and going all the way up to 1.5. You then just ignore the lines on the syringe and use the calipers to show you where you need to be. Your calipers are going right under the hub of the syringe not where the plunger stopper ends. Then each time you use them, they are pretty darn accurate.

That was a big drop from +2 to +4 , so you could see some bouncing from it.

Have you seen the video on using calipers? It might help you feel more comfortable trying them. If you need the link, let me know.

I thank you for letting me know about the calipers. I understand that the amount of insulin used in the syinge will always be accurate due to the measuring of the caliper and I understand it must be a great help when giving .1 or .2 units of insulin. But what I don't understand is once the plunger is pushed and the kitty gets the insulin the amount of insulin that the kitty gets will once again depend on where the top of the plunger ends. It the top of the plunger goes past the zero line then the kitty is once again getting more insulin than if the plunger ends right on the zero line.

The plunger when pushed in will always go over the zero line no matter how the syringes are marked accurately or inaccurately. The amount of insulin that is in the syringe from the hub of the syringe to the amount filled is what matters.

Hi, Hope you had a good day. Yoyo went down to 87 today. Do I have to take the reduction? His numbers have been so high for so long and then today he throws in an 87 !
I do not understand how his body works ! :D:D And if he did earn a reduction, what would it be?

It seems to me the higher numbers are from bouncing because he has gotten close to a reduction. I'm wondering if you reduce if the bouncing will not be as high, but you won't know for sure unless you reduce. SLGS says to reduce, but it's up to you. The 87 is very close to 90 and you monitor enough to catch another drop below 90 and it looks like he came back up quickly. The next dose is 0.1 units. If you scroll down on this page it will show you how to meausre that dose: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/syringe-insulin-info-handling-drawing-fine-doses.151/

I gave Yoyo his insulin at 7:05pm. I gave him .25units BUT I used a new syringe called Monoject. And now I don't know if I should have used the new syringe as I have no consistancy with that syringe but if anything I believe I might have given Yoyo less than .25units. The monoject has a very skinny plunger top and it is very different than using the BD syringes. I have given myself such a headache because now I worry that this dose is not consistant with his other doses. Since the monoject syringes line up with the zero line much better than the BD syringes I thought I should start using them but now I have second guessed myself and I have made myself so sick!!!

It's fine you gave the 0.25 unit dose. Don't worry yourself about switching syringes. I think it's best to only change one thing at a time. Unless he dips below 90 again, i'd stick with the 0.25 units and the Monject syringes. Yoyo will be fine.

Sorry to bother you with my insecurities about the dosing. I take this so seriously and I am my worse enemy when it comes to second guessing myself.
I know how to read and use the BD syringes, but the monoject syringes are so different. I just need to get my confidence back using this syringe and kowing what amount I am giving Yoyo. I thank you for ALWAYS being here for me and I appreciate your guidance.:bighug::bighug::bighug:
