Hi guys so Sox has had no insulin now for the last 4 cycles and maintains nice green numbers and a lowish blue for one of them?
@Rachel @Djamila @MrWorfMen's Mom

Nextsteps from here? Just keep monitoring the same as I usually do? Feed the same pattern? And if BG does creep back up into those higher blues start the insulin again?
 
Becki, these numbers are looking good! We say a cat has reached remission after 14 days of healthy normal numbers without insulin. So until you reach day 14, keep testing twice/day. It's okay to move the test times around - they don't just need to be the usual PS times. You want all of the numbers under 120, and most of them between 50-80, especially towards the end of the 14 days. After that you can test a couple of times/week for a month or so, then once/week or once every two weeks for the rest of his life. Don't go longer than two weeks without a test. Cats do fall out of remission unfortunately, and a second round of diabetes is much more difficult than the first round, so if it happens, you want to catch it quickly and get her back on insulin.

Some cats will start down the road to remission, and then the numbers will rise a little and they'll need a bit more insulin. Don't stress if this happens. It just means he needs a little more help still.

I will keep a track of how many days it's been and keep monitoring those numbers.

I did here that too so yes will be keeping a very close eye on him if we manage to get passed those 14 days.

Also should I be concerned about the 7.2 2 hours after reading. Or can I be happy with that as it's a normal reaction to eating?

That 7.2 isn't bad. It's probably the food spike...but since it did spike and didn't stay flatter, it's something to watch because often at +2 the number will go down or stay flat if the pancreas are kicking in. However, if Sox stays in greens for preshots, it may just be that the spike will be normal for your pattern. :) ECID (every cat is different)!

Most nights I'm tucked up in bed at those +3s. I'm not a good night person :D lol

So Sox gets fed 7 and 7.30am (for shots) lunch at 12.30 then dinner at 7 and 7.30pm for dinner and a before bed meal at 9.30pm.

That's what I'm hoping so far so good with them pre shots stating green.

We got a 6.4 two hours after eating, just the other day. I got worried, but was told not to. We did as instructions say, fed a little meal and tested 3-4 hours later. She had indeed gone down. By morning she was 3.9. She have not been that high since, but if she does, I'll with the worries until I see if it's a one off :)
 
Nearly 6 days with out insulin so far fingers crossed we carry on this way. :D

I wouldn't worry about that rogue slightly higher blue the other night. Could have been a result of a food bump or maybe a noise or something that you just didn't pay any attention to. You never know with these guys if they saw something out a window or heard something that could have elevated their BG a bit. Being hunters, it doesn't take much to get them excited.:D

Happy New Year! He's looking so good! Fingers and paws crossed that he keeps going. It looks like he's trending lower which is what you want to see.

He's such a rich color! I really love that deep red tone.
 
So we're still having a good run been insulin free.
Was a nice low 3.5 pre shot time and 5.6 2 hours later.
Keeping fingers crossed were back in the greens in the morning. :rolleyes:
 
I wouldn't worry about that 5.6...it's right on the edge of green and there is meter variance so Sox could have been a tad lower or higher neither of which is a problem. The little guy is looking very good! Great job both of you!:D

Yeah that's what I was thinking. Is it pretty normal as well for a cat who is in remission to chuck in a higher number here and there?

The odd blue is likely to crop up in a significant number of cats. There are a number working on OTJ trials right now on the Lantus forum and a number have gone into remission very recently (lots of kitties and beans have been busy of late :joyful:) and if memory serves, they have all seen at least one blue and some had several and many were higher than Sox's. Nothing to worry about at all. As long as he can get himself back to green and the blues aren't ongoing but rather spotty, I'd have no concerns.
 
I agree, I wouldn't worry about one number, especially since it's on the edge. Remember that around here we use 50-120 as the normal range, so 5.6 is within that. You do want most of the numbers to be green, but an occasional bump isn't anything to worry about. I would suggest scattering your tests around a bit though and not just testing at PS time. It's good to get a sense of how he's doing throughout the day.

Yes I shall do that at the weekend... Have only stuck to his normal test times due to been at work. But I should have time the next 2 day to do some random tests through the day :D
I'll see if I can get hubby to do one after he finishes work at 2 today.

That's ok then I did suspect that you may get the odd higher number here and there.
 
They are both little cuties. Both very different personalities though.
Going to be keeping an eye on Luna though to to make sure he doesn't go down Sox's diabetic path

Do you think also I need to get another vet appointment with Sox for them to give him a check up again and get that fructosemine test done that they wanted or do you think just carry on as I am with him?

I don't think he needs a fructosamine test. The proof of his excellent progress is on your spreadsheet. :)
 
No need for a fructosamine - unless you just have money to burn ;)

PS You might want to ask Marje to help you get another US conversion tab on your spreadsheet for 2019.

So I've got a number of 6.4 (115) this morning pre shot so getting to the higher end of normal if I get a pre shot tonight of 6.7 (120.8) should I start insulin back up or see how he goes through the night then see where we are in the morning?

Edit: I have just had a reading of 4.6 so we have come back down :smuggrin: phew
