Yesterday's dramatic bounce had some consequences.
Bear was feeling off his game, he was anti-social and his appetite decreased.
I had to fetch him to administer his tests, the lure of freeze dried chicken did not bring him trotting as usual.

Urine Ketone Test showed Trace 5, so I added water to his wet meals plus crumbled, freeze dried, chicken to entice him to eat.
As of this morning he still has Trace Ketones.

Today Bear is showing improvement in his demeanor.
His appetite is still off some, but he is drinking more water.
I will continue to test for Ketones.
I have some hope since he is having some better BG numbers and his water consumption has improved that he will be able to rid his body of the Ketones through urination without creating more of them in abundance.

My perspective and stress levels have improved with much needed sleep, even though I am on Bear's nocturnal schedule. Lol.

Definitely an improvement today but I think Bear is looking for a dose increase and given the ketones being at trace, I wonder if a 0.5u increase would be in order. That would be just a tad over his last ProZinc dose.

Let’s see where Bear goes after this bounce is over before deciding if an increase is needed. A nadir if 53 doesn't give much room for an increase, though it would help with some of the higher numbers. And I definitely would not increase by 0.5 units.

What food is Bear eating now and what is the carb%? One option is to feed a little higher carb, but still LC, in order to get more insulin in.

He is on 7% Friskies Classic Pate's.

I know on Prozinc he usually had a bounce, sometimes moderate, when increased.
Now that he is on Lantus I have't much confidence in how he will react.
I would hate to add more Ketones from another bounce.

Hmm, that’s a little harder to find higher LC, though there are some 8-9% foods out there, though that wouldn’t be much higher to be really significant.

At what + times does Bear get food? I am wondering whether a bit of food just before onset would help prevent those deep dives to low green. The goal is to flatten him out a bit.

His feeding schedule is 8:30 AM, testing snack at (+3 if tested), (12:30 to 1 PM), (3:30 PM), light food at 6 PM if he didn't eat much at 3:30, to prevent begging during his 2 hr no food before testing, (8:30 PM), (11:45 PM), (2:30 AM) Food left out for overnight. Freeze Dried snacks at every testing.
I put out 1.6 oz at a time and on his off days he eats/licks about 0.7 ozs. On a good day he eats about 9 to 10 ozs, on an off day 4-5 ozs. His pattern is 2 to 3 good days 9-10ozs, then 2 days off 4-6ozs.

Yesterday was 4 oz.
Day before was 5 oz
New Years Eve was 9 oz

During a bounce is a percentage of their Depot used? If it is, is the amount used relevant to the size of the overswing.

Are these even questions that can be answered?

Looks like an early night for. Bear should really break that bounce sometime tomorrow.

Glad you found some info on depots. It's a confusing concept at first.
