To shoot or not to shoot (shot, reduced .25)

Hey guys, we've been doing some weird things the past few days... and I don't know if I should shoot this morning at 158... that is after a +9 of 352 and a strange couple of days - I don't know why he is dropping lower so late in the days (right before shots).

Specifically speaking of the 12/31/18 through today.

Edited to Add:
Shot 1.75u
AMPS 158, +1 194, +2 243, +4 384, +6 395, +8 400, +10 452, +12 350

It looks like the bounce is clearing or already cleared. If you shoot, would you be able to monitor and have plenty of supplies on hand?

Also, I see you are following SLGS. With the 67 on 12/31, you should have reduced to 1.75 units. Please reduce if you do shoot today.

Yes, today was a curve day anyway so I have the day off to test every 2 hours. I do have everything on hand too.

Please keep posting all the tests you get today so we can follow along in case you need some hand-holding later. :bighug:

Thank you, will surely do.

Lost my beloved 12 year old girl, Baby, last night. So I could certainly use some hand holding if we start anything wonky with Mr. Harley today.

So it has been 20 minutes since he has eaten, he just finished when I made my original post. I tested again before getting ready to pull the insulin back and he is 133 now. 1.75 still?

That's good. +2 would be soon, right?

ETA: I just refreshed the spreadsheet I had open and saw the 243. It looks like another bounce started. Do keep the 1.75u to see where the nadir lands once the bounce is over.

Sorry I crashed from a long night of no sleep but yes +2 was soon I just forgot to put it on this post... but here are the last... I am assuming a bounce again? *sigh*

+2 243, +4 384

So i've been doing a lot of reading on here again. Would it be thought that I missed the "sweet spot" of dosing and the past 3 days have been a bouncing "game"? Or am I grasping to understand something that isn't there to understand... I do that a lot too, haha.

No, some cats just like to bounce. Just follow SLGS and you will get to the magic dose.

If you are feeding only wet, is there a reason why you chose to do SLGS, rather than TR? I tried SLGS and didn't have the patience to wait a full week to increase so I switched to TR. :joyful:

The only way to miss a good dose is too start at too high a dose (you didn’t), increase by too much at once (again, you didn’t), not reduce what kitty goes below reduction point, or not test enough to know it was safe to increase. As Mandy said, you do more testing that the average SLGS caregiver, although you missed the reduction a couple days ago, Harley was still in safe numbers at that point and would not have earned a reduction if on TR.

Pretty Nancy all cats bounce to start, because by giving insulin you are getting him into numbers he’s not used to. That’s a sign both of insulin doing it’s job, and his body reacting to the lower numbers. It’s a good thing. Once he starts spending more time in good numbers, the bouncing will reduce. But the timing is up to the cat. It took Neko a year to stop bouncing to red.

Honestly, I think it just sounded best to me at the time. I've been in a break from school but other than that I am typically gone most days except for the morning and evening. But... since I will have more time again as graduation is coming within a couple months and my job isn't crazy demanding (at least away from home) I may take a peak at the TR and figure out why I chose the other again, or switch. :)

Thank you for that info! Also good to know bouncing is normal, I started to feel really defeated today.

One last question, sorry, just trying to fully understand bouncing... So are the lower numbers past typical nadir (like the 67 before pmps on the 31st and in the 100s at like +9) part of bouncing as well and his body getting use to the insulin / numbers?

Bouncing happens from going lower than the numbers you usually see, like the pinks and reds right now or from fast drops like 300 to 100 for example in 1 or 2 hours.
