Possible remission?

Hi again. So in the midst of just posting about how I have two diabetic cats and it is becoming difficult to manage financially l, yesterday on Christmas I had to do a curve on both of them and oddly enough I had shot first because I wasnt expecting it, go to check Elvis' BG and it's at 78. Oops.
So I made sure he ate multipe times and at the next reading it was down to 45(thankfully no visible hypo symptoms) and the next reading was 60 and the next 66(3 hours a part readings). I obviously skipped last night and this mornings injections and just checked it(he has eaten through the day as I have a grazing cat food problem still in my house) and it was 114. I will contact his vet tomorrow continue to monitor the BG but for the sake of getting my hopes up, is he possibly going into remission? And if his sugar goes back up over what number do I start insulin again and do I start all over with the unit amount then?

Hi there, I am new here and saw your post.. you may want to repost this with a different subject line to get a quicker response. Ie “ Please help, BG numbers look normal - at what number do I start insulin again? Seeing your subject line sounds like good news and may not have the sense of urgency that you need an answer on dosing sooner rather than later.
 
I contacted another member directly to respond with some advice. She may respond quickly, so you may want to hold off reposting this under different subject if kitty is still looking good. Hope I didn’t confuse things, just trying to help.
 
Can you link your previous post to this one? Would you please add a signature that includes type of insulin and dose, food your are feeding, any other issues, age of cats, etc.? Cats are oftenhigh at the vet but that’s super high for stressrelated though not impossible. Did you change anything since you started insulin? A spreadsheet is really necessary to help. I’m going to try and find your previous posts but don’t have a lot of time right now. I’m glad you tested and didn’t shoot!
 
Definitly could be going into remission. Are you using a human or pet meter? Adding that info to your signature would be helpful. Remission would be at least two weeks of numbers in the normal range without insulin. Test at least twice a day
 
Sorry it's hard to fit everything in the signature but I tried. Elvis is the cat in question. I checked him when I got home today and the BG is back up to 164. Not sure when the last time he ate was since I have to have dry food out all day. I know that's still higher than normal but I also skip the insulin again tonight. Not urgent but I haven't heard back from the vet. Should I be withholding insulin until it ends up over 200 again?
To address the food thing because I know it will get asked. I work at a petstore and I use wellness core duck dry food because I get a discount on pet food and it's the lowest carb we have. I do not want to feed dry but I have to be careful with my other cat because he is prone to lipidosis and I cannot risk him not eating for too long or not getting enough to eat. My vet has advised me to not alter his diet too much. Elvis will not eat wet food. He wont go near it or even taste it. He wont even eat a piece of chicken or lunchmeat or baby food or anything and he has always been that way. I do not know how to get him to try it. I would withhold food during the day so I can feed different foods but none of them seem to want to eat enough at one time either. I now know about the dr elseys food but my third cat appears to have a chicken allergy so we stay away from that and to be honest it's also really expensive.

The only bit of info you're missing is if it's a human meter or alpha
 
Thanks for answering some of our questions are you using a pet or human meter? I would not withhold food. Most cats like to eat small amounts more often. Three units looks like was too much. I would not shoot under 200 for now if a pet meter. I understand about food alergies. I gave two two year olds and won’t can’t eat four proteins so far or she breaks out in her lips. Too bad because Dr. Elsey’s is one of two acceptable dry foods in my opinion. But they gave to eat so you gave to feed what they will eat.
 
Sorry was really busy today. I am using a trumetrix meter to test. It looks like his BG want to creep back up. Now at 208 this evening 3 days OTJ. I guess his pancreas isnt ready to work on it's own but at least it's trying and hopefully keeps it up. Vet said to start on 2u of insulin if it goes back over 200 but I think I should start with 1/2 or 1 unit and see what happens.

And yeah it's a shame with the food,its the most frustrating to me because I have learned so much working in the pet industry and from this experience about nutrition and to be honest if I could feed home made I would gladly do it. I know they would all be better off and they wouldn't have to take as much insulin if at all. All future cats will be accustomed to wet food immediately so we dont have to go through these mistakes again.

Ok so did half unit last night and this morning at 8:30am, just checked again and BG is 109. Cant imagine if I gave him a whole two units as the vet said...I am going to have to figure that situation out I guess.
Anyway, since this part is new to me, with a suspected remission is it common to only have to inject once a day or even less while I'm seeing what his body is doing to adjust right now?
 
Been doing .25 but I still am finding I have to skip. Sometimes I check it at the higher ends(morning and night) and it will be around 200 and sometimes it's around 100.
