Happy Boxing Day, all!

Not seeing any movement on the 1.25u, so far. I know this morning was dose 6, but still! So frustrating. I feel like I'm working against the clock, as we leave tomorrow afternoon for 2 weeks. We have a woman coming twice/day who runs a sitting service (Friends have used her for their two high-need cats - meds & sub-q fluids, so I trust her. She has a lot of diabetic cat clients, but sadly we're the only ones who test (!!!)). She'll do the pre-shot tests, and the shots (and all the other general maintenance), but I'm really stressed about it quite honestly.

I'm thinking of either keeping the 1.25 if he stays high over the next 24 hours, or telling her to do 1u. She wants a 'don't shoot/reduced unit' number, which I"m thinking would be 90, based on his history. So, if I stay with the 1.25u, have her do 1u if he's below 90? He doesn't tend to eat as well when we're gone, but we haven't made this trip since the diagnosis, nor since we got the civvie. So maybe he won't be as stressed? She will email me an update twice/day with his number, how much food was left, demeanor, etc.

Ideally, this 6th dose of 1.25 will give us some movement, and he'll earn a reduction to 1 tonight, and I can just chill cause I'd be ecstatic just to see blues for PS over the next two weeks ;)

He's acting friendly, but tired. Urine output is increased, of course, and he's eating (too) well.

Thanks for any advice!

Gabby wouldn't let anyone except me test. It made life challenging for my kitty sitters when I traveled. I would reduce the dose so there was a margin of safety. Even with having reduced, I came home after travel and found Gabby to be in the 40s. While you'll have someone testing, is your sitter able to get any mid-cycle data or will it all be pre-shot tests?

If your sitter is there for pre-shot tests only, I'd think about giving yourself a margin of safety. This is especially the case if your cat doesn't eat well when you're away. Better a kitty's numbers are a bit higher than desirable than too low.

And a dose that's on the line marking on the syringe is easier to see for someone not used to measuring the dose.
I'm glad you found a sitter you trust. I would still leave out a sample syringe with some colored liquid showing the current dose so she can compare what she's measuring. The no shoot number may also depend on how he's been doing and eating. I hope he does excellent, and you have a great trip. :bighug:

Thanks for all the advice! For tonight's dose and tomorrow morning (we'll be here till AM +4 or +5), should I up to 1.5 since he's still in the yellow?

No, you don't want to increase just before you leave. We usually suggest that you reduce 2 days before you leave so you could reduce tonight. Yes, you will see higher numbers, but again, we want Cameron to be safe.

FWIW, I didn't decrease for my "out of town" dose until the morning I left unless the previous PM was a fairly low numbers. (Keep in mind, I was following TR and would shoot anything above 50, though.) I've never seen it suggested that people decrease 2 days prior to traveling.. It all depends on your individual kitty. The fact that Cameron doesn't eat well when Leah travels is an important piece of data.

I normally would have asked earlier, but I honestly thought he'd have cleared this higher spate of numbers by now and be back down to 1u or even .75. I would have knocked a quarter or half unit off and figured that would be good. I swear, he does these things to test me and make sure he's always on my mind ;)

@Sienne and Gabby (GA) - She'll only be here for preshot testing, no mid cycle. Cameron has hung out with her, and he does fine for my husband as long as there's a pile of treats in front of him ;) That cat will do anything for treats!
