(NEED HELP NOW PLEASE..Sprocket was doing better until he vomited some food today about 11 hrs ago. He has eaten a little at a time since. About 3oz less than normal. Gave ondansetron for nausea 6hrs ago, and famotidine an hour ago. He looks like he doesnt feel good. Quiet.
Anything else I can do? his bg is in 100s but if he keeps eating less he will keep dropping.
He still wont eat. still dropping.
Really starting to worry now
and cry. help pls &&
124 at +5.9. was 187 at pmps at 615pm. 263 at 309pm. so he has gone down alot today. was 316 at amps. (yesterday info)
then...
was 153 for amps & he ate 1.5oz while I was asleep and now at +3.8 he is 86. (today)
And wont eat more. looks better visually though.
Then..spoke to vet. she had me give some karo & I added 3 dental treats. retest in hr. he was 98 at +5.25. then he ate about 2oz of food. We all took a nap. just tested again. he is 72 at +8.4.
I offered food. he wont eat.)
that is some of fd post

Please read both posts.
Need some advice. Not sure if this is good or bad. Is he reducing his food intake therefore I reduce his insulin?
Or is something else going on?

My SS is updated with bgs but not food intake.
Today visually he looks better. He will eat some food and will eat treats.
I have been putting fortiflora on food and even sprinkled soft treats on top. He is walking away.
He normally eats 14-15oz of food a day. Yesterday 8.3oz. Most being before he vomited food at 1pm EST

He was in 100s all pm cycle yesterday then 100s and greens today.
I would think he would bounce by now. What if he doesnt bounce by pmps today (in about 1hr n half) ??
This amps I gave 2u dose instead of his usual 2.4u.
Vet said if he between 100-150 to give 1 unit or skip.
???What do you all think???
Especially if he isnt eating much.
I have high carb food but it doesnt do much like it used to before.

I have not been able to skip in past because he would go in 300s or 400s. I dont know this time.

Please help me figure out what he is doing here???

oh and his poopy is smelly, light brown & soft.

Sorry so long but trying to give all info.
gonna try to tag anyone I can.

Desperate and very worried

How many calories is Sprocket eating per day? How many should he get for his size? Cats that are better regulated will need less food. You don't reduce his dose if he's eating less, but rather reduce his dose if he earns a reduction by going below the reduction point.

Oral ondansetron doesn't last that long in the cat. You can dose up to three times a day. How much are you giving? How much does Sprocket weight? It could be you are underdosing the ondansetron. Or if he's vomiting, Cerenia might be a better choice.

Perhaps a vet can help you find out why he's inappetant or vomiting. When was the last time Sprocket saw the vet? I see labs for February this year. I tried to get Neko in every six months to the vet. When was the last ketones test? With inappetance and smelly poop (if unusual) and vomiting, I'd think about getting professional eyes on him. Maybe pancreatitis? Don't know.

He is in safe numbers for now, just not numbers he's used to. The power of the depot is that lower numbers can last longer, even with a reduced dose. One of the reasons I'm not fond of the reduced dose as a mechanism to "keep kitty safe".

Sorry I don't do FB, so didn't read it.

Darnell! Climb off the ceiling fan! Remember - you cannot control what his body does! Those numbers are what all your work and worry has been for - he's OK! When he's in those good numbers, he's not hungry like he used to be because his body can USE the food. He's not earned a reduction yet so give the same shot. You KNOW what to do if he goes under 'normal' - you've done this all before. Riding that ceiling fan, you're letting your dizzy brain imagine 'what if' things then letting your nerves get to you when there's nothing to worry about!!!

Soft stool - that can happen just because he's not feeling well.

Lots of deep slooooow breaths and find something to occupy your mind instead of worrying about what 'might happen'.

HUGS!!

I am trying but he is half the amount he normally eats. I cant give same dose if he isnt eating the same. He normally eats 14-15oz a day. yesterday he only at 8.3oz and today so far its 5.2oz. and dental treats & karo.
I dont want to give no insulin but cant do his normal 2.4u either. That dose balances him when he eats alot.
I have to test again in hour for pmps. he was 72 still an hour ago.
What dose do I give if he still wont eat much?
1u? 1.5u? 1.75u?

ketone meter faulty so cant use. will try to follow him to box for pee test.

He was eating 14-15oz per day. I didnt calculate calories. Yesterday he only ate 8.3oz and today so far 5.2oz plus dental treats and karo. His dose works when he eats alot but he is barely eating. I cant give same dose.
Suggestions for dose? 1u? 1.5u? 1.75u? 2u?

the ondansetron is expired compounded. its 2mg/ml. i give 1mg (0.5ml) 2x day.
he weighs about 15.5lbs.
He hasnt vomited since yesterday.
Cerenia is more expensive and I cant pill him. Sometimes he will take it in pill pocket but cant rely on that.

He was in feb. with full labs. needs to get retested soon. was making appt for next week. I spoke to vet today
I wrote it all above. She said to monitor him. She thinks he may be heading to remission.
ketones is on my spreadsheet. Its been awhile as he was doing so well for so long.
tried to do blood ketone test but meter is faulty. Company sending a new one.

Those numbers on the SS are finally starting to come around - looks good. Don't worry about the food so much.

2 units Darnell - you know this - you can do this - just work on getting yourself back to your good mental state! You know how to handle anything he throws at you! You've done it before just fine. Don't let yourself convince yourself you can't or don't. He's eating less because he's using more of the food instead of it just going thru without helping anything...

HUGS.

Any chance you can get your hands on non expired ondansetron? It should last a little longer than the expiry date though. At Sprokets weight you can give more ondansetron, up to 3.5 mg twice a day (0.5 mg/kg). That might help him eat more if he's feeling off.

I have to order more. I was doing that this week but keep getting distracted by my 2 cats.
Will ask vet to send script asap.

pmps/101. he ate 2oz surprisingly of 14 carb. gonna open some tuna later to give some tuna juice.
gave 1.62u of insulin. I know I was a chicken ****. I gave more than vet wanted me to.

and of course now he is eating again as I type this. Well at least we can both sleep tonight then. We havent slept much in past 24 hrs.

So anyone know reason for smelly soupy poop?
I know that would cause belly upset. Does karo do that?

oh and he had famotidine tab in pill pocket and ondansetron dose too.

It could easily be that Sprocket had an intestinal bug or a bout of intestinal distress and now it is beginning to clear up. I would suggest treating him normally and seeing if he doesn't get back on his food. Perhaps he got too many meds, etc. and his body rebelled.

Get a good night's sleep!

An intestinal bug is possible as he is also a pica cat with plastic(which we hide it all) buy he picks up pine tree needles faster than we can pick them up sometimes.

This 6am he had soft n smelly poop. 6pm he had soupy poop and again just now.

He isnt on many meds. He takes his ursodiol for his liver & milk thistle for his liver.
I give them both Dr.Goodpet digestive enzymes with probiotics. He eats a ton of fortiflora.
I only give him famotidine & ondansetron when he needs it.

If you see the thread I posted last week on top he has been weird for over a week.

I hope we get to sleep more tonight.

For GI difficulties my go to is Slippery Elm Bark ... about 1/8 t dissolved in water and slowly syringed. Might be worth checking out if you haven’t already . Sending prayers that Sprocket feels better soon . :bighug:

I've used slippery elm bark also, and it worked great for tummy upset. Just be sure not to give it within 2 hours of medications since it can block absorption of the meds.
