Newbie here! Just looking for some herbal input/advice.

My cat has been prescribed Lantus, this is our first week. You’ll see on my spreadsheet testing has been a little bit or miss - I’ve been trying not to stress myself out when I can’t get it.

My kitty made a great escape Sunday night, and a well meaning neighbor fed him an insane amount of unknown food (he threw up most of it the next morning - looked like a ton of dry food). Could the high numbers I’ve been getting since then still be a result? I’m also afraid I may have gotten two fur shots yesterday. ‍♀️ And is it bad that I’ve gone ahead and increased his 2x/day doses to 1.5 units each? His numbers have just stayed so consistently high.

I’ll be trying for our first glucose curve tomorrow. Crossing my fingers I’m able to get all the tests!

First of all, do not increase again. Hold this dose for a few more days so the depot can stabilize. It is possible the high numbers you are seeing are being influenced by the dry food a few days ago. What kind of food are you giving him now?

And... welcome!! :bighug:

Thank you!!!

He’s been getting canned wet food - which I checked against the food chart to make sure it’s all high protein, low carb - with the exception of his great escape. He gets Fancy Feast and Weruva.

One more question - should I do the curve tomorrow, or wait a few days to let him stabilize at this higher dose?

By tomorrow morning, it will have been 5 cycles, but you mentioned some fur shots. I think you would get a better idea of what the dose is doing if you wait until Sunday if you are able to do the curve then.

I would definitely hold the dose and try to get some more data before you decide how this dose is doing. We dose based on how low the dose takes the cat. Those lows typically happen somewhere in the middle of the cycle so getting tests between the shots really gives you a picture how things are going.

Your signature still says you are evaluating dosing methods. Both TR and SLGS would have had you increase by just 0.25 units because of the yellows you were seeing (ie. under 300). Neither of them would have you increase with some mid cycle data, either a curve (SLGS) or mid cycle spot checks on more cycles (TR).

Did you feel liquid or smell insulin when you think you might have done the fur shots? Insulin has a pretty unique smell. It'll help us if you can put something like FS in the units column, so it would look something like 1.5 FS or 1.5FS? Or PFS for partial fur shot if you think some got in. Plenty of examples how to do that in Neko's spreadsheet. Anyway, any time you do a furshot, you interrupt the demo and the cycle count for how long before you increase starts over again.

In case it can help, a post on Testing and Shooting Tips and more testing tips.
