As most of you know Truffles has a virus and is poorly. He wouldn’t even eat one day. He was staying under my bed and I literally had to drag him out and get him to lick a little food off my finger. He has improved slightly. He comes out from under the bed a bit more and today, so far, has had 3 v small portions of food. He is very stiff now when he walks and couldn’t even jump on his favorite chair in the bathroom. It’s breaking my heart. I can see a very slow improvement each day now and the vet told me it could be 7 to 10 days before he’s better but I’m so worried. My hubby has been on deployment and was due home tomorrow but now has to stay in the UK as my father-in-law died last Tuesday. He was due to visit Friday. My two adopted kittens have had a herpes flare up and have been so bunged up so I’ve been dealing with that. Plus my pregnant foster still hasn’t had her kittens and my new foster is the sweetest 4 week old visually impaired kitten who needs regular eye cream. I’m just feeling a little overwhelmed right now.

Wow Annie, you are an amazing person to take on all these sweet babies. Sounds like you are doing a great job.

I know this is difficult, but amongst all the chaos, try to make some time for yourself. Watch a show to take your mind off of things, meditate, yoga, take a walk, listen to music, or do something else that you like! You deserve even 20 minutes to yourself and to relax. Remember, to take care of others you have to take care of yourself first.

We are always here if you want to talk. :bighug: <3

I haven't tested his bg because he really isn't eating a lot. Could his rear leg weakness be due to high bg. Can I give insulin if he's really not eating more than a few mouthfuls at a time. I don't know what to do?

Yes, it could be diabetic neuropathy. Most of us use Zobaline for Cats to help with that.

How confident are you that you'll be able to get him to eat more? Can you syringe feed if necessary?

That's one of the bad things about using Vetsulin...it's a lot more important that they eat a pretty normal sized meal before it "hits".

Each day he is eating a little more but not enough for a shot. I will test him next time he comes out from under the bed. I know his bg was up but tbh nowhere near as high as when we started. It also dropped the next day a bit. I know he is stressed. I don’t want to stress him more. He can walk but he looks stiff and arthritic more than anything. My mind was more that he is stiffening up because he’s not moving.

Looking at your ssheet, Truffles is still OTJ? Test regularly for a couple of days before deciding to put him back on insulin. Feeling bad can raise bg's until the cause is fixed.

I'm sorry your world sort of sucks right now...I hope it settles down soon.

HUGS,

Thanks for that. I needed someone to reaffirm what I was thinking. I’m just so worried about my poor boy. He’s had 4 really small meals today which is an improvement. It’s horrible seeing my usually happy talkative boy so down and looking so old.

:bighug::bighug:it does stink when they get older. I've got a very arthritic cat too. But bupe has helped her along with gabapentin. She jumps up on things now. I also put step stools next to her fav chair or bed to make it easier. Tomorrow is a new day and hopefully he'll feel even better. God bless you for taking on all those furbabies!

This is an example of what diabetic neuropathy looks like (although this is a pretty severe case)
No he looks more stiff. Taking short steps like an old man. He actually came out and went in to the bathroom waiting for food which was amazing. Ate a little more than yesterday, had a choice of chicken or the prescription urgent care food and ate a little of both. He just looked a little brighter too. It’s funny Minxy hasn’t left him alone for long for days and been off her food a bit because he’s not eating with her and she came downstairs and lay on the sofa with me last night. Really hoping we may have turned a little corner.

He’s eaten a bit better today and even some fancy feast this afternoon. I’ve been feeding him little and often. He gets put off if there’s too much in front of him. Still spending a lot of time under my bed but baby steps.

My guy is arthritic. After four nights in a cage, in the radiology isolation ward after I-131 treatment, he was so stiff that he could barely walk when we came home. But it got better pretty quickly.

I’m hoping it’s just because he’s not moving at all. He is usually pretty active, up and down the stairs. Jumping on and off chairs. He has barely moved for a week now. Thank you for all your support and comments. It means a lot.
