I made the decision to take Andy back to Lantus starting this am. He was changed to Novolin after being in ER and treated for raging UTI and no appetite. The Novolin does drop his bgs but way too fast for Andy. And these preshot numbers are higher than I've seen with Lantus. Andy has been a bouncer for yrs and very sensitive to change. In my opinion, Lantus is not perfect for him but I am much more comfortable with using it than anything else I've had him on. It's only been a week since the change but I think it was time. My current spreadsheet for Andy is only updated for the Novolin. I need to add that I have many other rescue pets, many older now with health issues one of which is another diabetic (Big John) so I can't spend loads of time with Andy as most of you do with your kitties. The Novolin will take too much monitoring for my bouncing Andy. What do you all think? Right decision?

You are taking care of him and many other kitties!-You are doing the best you can! I love that you took in rescue kitties! I have no expertise to offer--just it makes me happy to know there are people out there like you that take care of rescue cats. Just so happy that I do not live in vet times of the 1980`s anymore! I am still so new (following vet's dosing advise) that I was behind twenty years in kitty care and how far it has come over the years. I have no help in expertise on diabetes for kitties, just thought I would say I am happy you take in rescue kitties.

Thank you Laura. I was very fortunate to take early retirement and then got involved with a shelter where over time I adopted a few that were overlooked. My hubby loves them too, thank goodness. We have 21 rescued cats right now and 4 dogs. Each cat has a story - I could write a book but only cat lovers would be interested LOL. So now we have 7 on different diets and meds including 2 sugarbabies, Andy & Big John. I hope you have good success with Nermal on Lantus. Big John is doing very well on it - 1u 2x daily and stays in the 100-200 range. Andy also did ok on it, better than the other insulins we tried. Every cat is definitely different.

Yvonne, what a wonderful person you are taking in so many rescue kitties and dogs. Your husband too.
I’m sure you must get lots of love from them all.
I wish there were more people like you in the world. You should write a book about them all. There are plenty of cat lovers around!
