? PMPS always black; change feeding schedule?

Seeing a definite pattern with Maestro's high numbers occurring at PMPS reading. I have been feeding a total of 9oz Fancy Feast Classic pate (seafood flavors) per day; 3 oz @ PMPS +11, 1.5oz @ AMPS +4, 1.5oz @ AMPS +9 or +10, and 3oz @ AMPS +11. His weight is holding steady at 17.4 pounds (big Maine Coon male).
I'm thinking I need to adjust his feeding schedule. Thoughts/advice? (cross posted in Acromegaly forum)

Hi Sue, I agree that the feeding schedule should be adjusted. I'm sure a more experienced member can explains things better, but I'll give it a try and see if it helps.

Your AMPS/PMPS is probably being influenced by food since it looks like you are feeding an hour before AMPS/PMPS. You should withhold food two hours before shot time so that you know what Maestro's true BG is. Bailey's BG can go up by 50-75 points just due to food. You should also try to test, feed, shoot within 15 minutes.

I've also been told to feed the bulk of the food during the first half of the cycle after AMPS/PMPS because during the second half the effects of the Lantus are beginning to wane so you are feeding a BG that is already rising. I now give Bailey the bulk of her food before +7, and I've seen a big difference.

I'm pretty sure there is a concern about mercury in the seafood so I limit Bailey to seafood no more than twice a week.

Maestro's is an awesome name, btw. I can almost picture him conducting an orchestra, his long hair flowing as he bob's his head around furiously to the music. He's a beautiful boy.

Hi Rosie, Thanks for your reply. Your explanation is excellent and makes a lot of sense.

Maestro originally got his name because I love music, but then he started sitting on his hind legs and waving his front paws around like he is conducting an orchestra!! We call it "saying his prayers" because it occurs before meal time. It breaks my heart that he tries to do it now but the hind leg neuropathy makes it very difficult.

Btw, Bailey is a beautiful girl!!!

I'm in love with Maestro already. I absolutely love that photo! My daughter loves to paint cats, and she has a painting of cat up on his hind legs knocking over a vase filled with water. Of course, little Maesto looks like he's such a good kitty that he would never do that, but seeing him up on his hind legs reminded me of that painting. I'm away from home, but I'll share it with you when I get back :)

I'm so sorry that he is dealing with the neuropathy. He's a recently diagnosed kitty, and with the help of the wonderful folks on this board, hopefully he will be praying again really soon.

Try 1/8 of can at +8 or 9. 1/4 can @ +6. All the rest before +6. If course like everything else it take time to show affects. Should Maestro demand anything in between those make it a freeze dried treat.

Today is a demanding day for Olive, she is just ravenous, but she is higher than normal today. It happens but must be careful not to over feed.

Awe!!! Looking forward to seeing your daughter’s painting!!

I have a few videos of him saying his prayers... they are so precious!! Give Bailey a scratch behind the ears and a tummy rub.

Travel safely!!

Nice string of yellows and blues Maestro is "conducting" today!
No more blacks for you Maestro!
Hope you start seeing improvements in his neuropathy soon.
