10/28 Luci AMPS 183, PMPS 213 (Confirm), 277 (Prime) Dose increase tonight.

I just shake my head. I'm doubting everything now; Is the Lantus no good? Is the food wrong? Is she getting into something that I don't know about? Is my meter no good? It seems both of the new meters that I've tried in the last couple of days indicate that her BG is MUCH higher than the Confirm has been telling me. I'm suspicious that I've been getting incorrect numbers for quite a while now. Perhaps she's not been getting enough insulin for just as long...so I'll be using two human meters until she comes down; and then I'll add the Pet meter when she gets low enough to make me think she's in an area where a reduction is being considered - something is wrong here and I'm going to get to the bottom of it one way or another...might have to buy a lot of meters.

Good luck with the meters. I tried several at first and got different readings on them. I finally decided just to pick one and stay with it. At least it gave me a comparative reading from the previous numbers. I think none of them are really accurate at higher numbers, but good with near normal numbers. I got very close readings on all mine when testing myself, DH and Jessie (drooler). Come on down Luci!

Hi Jill, How many different meters did you test?
I agree as long as the numbers are similar I'll probably call that about the same - but one thing about trying out different meters is becoming familiar with how much blood they take. I was really surprised that the prime requires so much more! The Confirm seems to have a lighter papery type strip while the Prime is very firm/solid like hard plastic - and it doesn't 'slurp' up the blood drop as easily as the Confirm. I had to poke Luci twice late yesterday to get a big enough drop - I'm probably going to try one of those mail order styles next - the OneDrop looks promising because of the unlimited strips per month deal...we go thru a lot of strips.

I started out with a Prodigy. Scooter didn’t like it because it beeps when the strip sucks the blood up right in his ear. I then tried a prime. I was getting some wonky numbers and thought it might be the meter, so I bought a Confirm. This was when Scooter was in higher numbers. There was quite a difference in them on Scooter. I settled on the Prime. It does take a bit more blood than the Confirm, but for some reason it was easier for me to get it to slurp the blood. Maybe because the strips are firmer or maybe I had just gotten used to it. I frustrated my self over the variations and finally decided I just had to pick one and stay with it.
