Good morning everyone,

This is Bailey's 4th cycle on a reduced dose of .20. I am trying to figure out what to do with dosing for the next few days. I am so happy with Bailey's progress, and I don't want to mess this up.

I will be out of the house tomorrow for most of the day, but I am taking her with me to monitor.
Then we are home Sunday, and we leave Monday morning to travel from PA to Florida, driving straight through as long as we have no problems along the road.

We are microdosing so that complicates things a little for me. I stopped using the calipers because I just can't see well enough to line the caliper opening to the syringe. I am now using a kid's microscope just so that I can see how much I'm giving her. I am open to any suggestions on how I can be more precise, or how I can make better use of the calipers with my poor vision.

Thanks everyone for your help!

Wishing you all a wonderful day!

Hi Rosie, I too use calipers and I too have trouble seeing the lines. I bought a pair of 3.0 readers from the drug store and use those AND a magnifying glass to make sure I have the calipers lined up correctly. Working under a little lamp helps too.

If you don't think you will be able to test enough while on the road, you could always bump her back up to .30 dose. How well does she travel? If she is a nervous Nelli that could effect her numbers to go higher IF she is one of those cats whose numbers go up when stressed. Some kitties numbers go down when they are stressed. So, consider that when altering the dose.

Safe travels to you while you are on the road.

Not doing too bad on that 0.20 units.

No advice on the calipers. I use the insulin ruler. I printed it out and had it laminated so I can line up the marks.

Have a good trip.

Using the readers and the magnifying glass sounds like you made your own microscope :)
I have a glass top table, and I put a light underneath it. It helps, but that's not enough. The microscope I have now is great, but it can't accommodate both items at once.

How well does she travel?
She typically hunkers down while we travel and normally sleeps after about 20 minutes of crying. She doesn't eat or use the litter box the whole time so we take turns and try to get there as quickly as possible. This was all before diagnosis and on dry food. I suspect this will be a whole new adventure.
Another option is to leave her with family, but she would not be getting any insulin at all for the week.
At this point, though. I don't know. She's already pushing it today with that 50@+3. :banghead:

I use the insulin ruler.
I saw you mentioned that once before. That might work because I can try fit the printout in the microscope. I couldn't find it online the first time, but I just found one! It says it's for BD syringes, but it can at least provide a guide for the Relion syringes. At this point, I am just trying to be consistent, even if not totally accurate.

My (positive) beliefs, Bailey… is getting ready to go into low blues and dip toe in upper green (maybe stay in low blue!).
Remember, stress causes BG numbers to go up!?! In their lies the trip overall a stressful event for him-even though you will be with him and he will feel somewhat safe, cats have an amazing GPS system and therefore he will probably be stressed, darling!
The trip is going to end up being perfect and joyous. FL weather is forecasted to be beautiful!
After all, I think that you and Bailey are pretty cool people and... cool things happened to cool people :)!

Good luck, let us know how that works out. Some pics would be good too!
Safe travels to you while you are on the road.
Thank you so much for your guidance! I have learned so much from you both! We will stay safe, and we will take pics!

You are so sweet! Thank you so much for those kind words. I hope Bailey listens so I can relax a bit, and she can get a pokey vacation.
I'm really excited to go, and I will travel with positive thoughts!
