Hi, my cat is Sam and he was diagnosed about a month ago. He’s on Lantus and the vet is still adjusting his dose. He started at 1 unit twice a day, then 2 units twice a day and now he’s on 4 units twice a day. I’d like to start home monitoring and have no idea where to start. My question is which meter is the best? I’ve read a lot of different things on the site and my head is spinning! And when do I test him and how do I track it? I have the numbers the vet gave me but I don’t know if those would be comparable if I were to use a human meter. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Hi Brianna and Sam. Home testing is one of the best tools you have to keep Sam safe and see how the insulin is affecting him.

I would also suggest you start on the Main Feline Health Forum where you can learn the basics about FD, testing, feeding, spreadsheets, etc. Once you have learned that, then you can post back here where we can help you with regulation.
I will say that raising the dose that fast can cause overdosing and, if the dose is too high, can potentially cause hypoglycemia. So it’s very important that you get a meter and start home testing.
