hi all - I used my own one touch mini to test Laila. Her pmps - well - really during meal to get her to be still - was 170. This is down from her ER visit number of 270. The vet prescribed 2iu for levels in the 270s but I was concerned about giving that dose for a fasting rate of 170. I gave her 1 iu per the advice of the FDMB. I’m going to call the vets when they open to see what advice the have on ranges for Laila. I’m going to work today and will be leaving her alone for the first time since diagnoses and don’t want to overdo her insulin. What is your advice about the reduced the shot?

What 'ranges' are you looking for?

BTW: Congrats on using your own One Touch to get a BG reading! That's all you need you know - don't spend your money on a pet meter until after you've had a chance to read up - unless of course money is no object - then you'll have both kinds :)

I second the use of a human meter. I also strongly suggest you read the yellow stickies and the two protocols we use here, SLGS and TR. We don’t use a sliding scale. Lantus likes consistency and is dose based upon the lowest point in the cycle, the nadir. What food are you feeding? If any dry the only protocol we suggest is SLGS. If you have been feeding dry in the past sometimes cats become diet controlled quickly is switched to wet food. With that preshot I think 2 units was too high a starting dose. Kudos to you for shooting l unit. Ask questions. You will get answers.

We like data here so p,see start a spreadsheet. Directions are here.

Great job on home testing! I’m no expert, but the 1 unit was probably a good idea. Most here use a human meter and it makes it easier for the experts to give dosing advice. Keep testing and put it in your spreadsheet. There’s lots of knowledgeable people her to help you find the right dose for Laila.
