Yeah, basically our sugars today are in the 200s, which is an improvement from the 300s for the last couple of days, and that’s all I’ve got to say about that.

Over the last 2 days or so his appetite has been improving. He is still more lethargic than normal and not really vocal, still lays on his side a lot, but seems to be more interested in stealing his sisters’ food. Of course he won’t eat his own food bc it has potassium and other medicine in it. I think my civvie Bella may have had some of his lasix today . I put the food down and he was slowly eating it, I went to take a shower and came back to bella licking her chops near his bowl. I was like, AGAIN?! Are you trying to die?! I figured a little lasix won’t hurt her. Thank goodness she has functioning kidneys because one day of a little extra potassium and another day of lasix could really be a problem. I swear these cats are taking years of my life...

Anyway, yesterday I noticed a crack in Frosty’s front paw toe that looked like it was becoming infected. I had to bring him to our local vet for a check up and antibiotics. The vet that saw him today has never seen him before and said that he actually didn’t look as bad as he thought he was gonna look. I told him, “you shoulda seen him on Vetoryl! He looked great.” It sucks that those days are now behind us. :( i miss the crazy, hungry, happy Frosty that used to scream his little head off and try to steal our food. I kept asking the vet, “how do I know when it’s time?” He said that i should make a plan that if Frosty has, say, 3 really bad days in a row where he’s not eating and lethargic and just going downhill, that’s when it’s time. He said that today is not that day.

So that’s where we are. Just wanted to update everyone. Thanks again for everyone’s support and for sharing your stories with me. It means a lot. ❤️

Ah, Frosty! I hope the new toe rip will heal quickly. And I can so relate to the kitties taking years off our life. Until FD, I use to look younger than my age. NOT ANYMORE! LOL !!!
Ha!!!! So funny you said that. I am usually told i look younger than my age too. Until I took my passport photo last weekend. I even managed to do my hair and makeup, yet I look at least 10 years older in it and my whole face is like sagging :arghh: it’s so bad. I would retake it but it was $7 and due to all my spendings on Frosty I didn’t wanna waste another $7. :banghead: That’ll be a wonderful reminder of this time of my life for the next 10 years.

My next to last license photo was one of the best pictures of me I've ever had. As in, I want to share it, badly. And then I had to renew my license this year, and I look so much older now. That's what extreme caring for J.D., and then 3 years of grieving his loss did to me. It's okay.

Feel better vines and more appetite vines are on the way to Frosty.:cat:

Hi Ana - that is a good vet report when he says Frosty is looking okay. Sometimes we get very in tune and it is easy to see the problems. Of course that also helps us recognize problems that a vet may not see. Anyhow, I'm glad Frosty is with you for now and for at least 3 days in a row. That is pretty sage advice from someone working with cats regularly.:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Let's start a club! Wish we could get retribution for the damages these felines are doing to us!!

I am glad that today is not that day for Frosty, so you are feeling better today too!! Hope that does not come along for a long time.

How do you treat his skin tears, I take prednisone so that makes my skin thin and I have a lot of skin tears. Some of them are painful. Is there any thing like Tegaderm you could use on pets.

You can’t really use any dressing because they will just rip it off. You could use an e-collar to stop them from licking / messing with the wound. As you know, I put Frosty in a shirt or a onesie to prevent him from messing with his tears, or from accidentally making new ones by grooming. The thinnest areas are right under his “armpits” and down the flanks. I even compared to my civvies, although their skin is much thicker, it tends to be thinner in those areas.

For the paw, I asked the vet if we should put a bandage around it and he said no, just leave it alone. He said if I really wanted to do some local wound care I coulduse dilute chlorhexidine and put it on a gauze and hold it to the area for a few minutes. I have 4% chlorhexidine at home (hibiclens i think is the brand name, you can get it at CVS) so I’m probably gonna use that. He suggested i do the same thing to the skin tear on his side, but when i tried cleaning it yesterday , when the scab gets wet the skin seems to pull away from the area more and more making the wound larger. At least right now there’s a thin scab over it and it doesn’t look infected. My personal experience with wounds tells me to leave it alone.

It’s definitely not easy. There have been cats with Cushing’s that has to be put down due to the skin tears alone, because as you said they are painful. Frosty’s first tear was the worst he’s had thus far though and he was acting fine. So it’s hard to tell. It definitely makes his overall condition worse. My poor guy :(

And now for some strange reason our sugars are running lower... huh? He’s been snacking on his sister’s food intermittently since we got back from the vet, but I’m confused. Does he just want me to not sleep tonight? Is this payback for taking him to the vet

Here are some more healing vines, scritches, and tasty fuds for Frosty. And lots more good days! And lots of hugs for you, Ana.

Feel good about yourself and don't fret about those "official" photographs. They are notoriously and historically terrible. I still laugh about a passport photo from the 1960s, when I had an abcessed tooth. I look like I have the mumps!
