October 1, 2018 Condo - Dose increase

Good morning all,
I increased the dose last night to 2.5u after a pretty static yellow cycle. He briefly touched a blue last night, but is right back in the 200s this morning. Hopefully he'll get out of the yellows/pinks and get down to good numbers. We have the vet visit this morning at 0900 (an hour and a half from now). I'm really hoping we get some answers. On the plus side, now that we've moved, we're literally just down the street from the vet clinic, so we'll be there in less than 5 minutes. I'll provide an update once we're done.

With me working the weekend, I haven't really seen Caleb since Friday night. Thankfully we both have today and tomorrow off, so we can get things done around the house and enjoy each other's company. I hope you all have a wonderful day and your kitties stay safe. Sending vines of comfort, love, and healing to all those kitties and beans in need. :bighug::bighug::bighug:

Good luck with the Vet visit and the dosecrease.

Give Lou a Belly tickle on that big white belly of his, he so reminds me of BFG, they could be twins.

We've been thinking about you guys - hope Lou will come down...Luci and he must be collaborating and being stubborn. She just got a dose increase too...let's see if they can make it work. Best on the vetty visit...I hope they help you figure out what's been going on with him...:bighug::bighug::bighug:

Hello everyone, we're back from the vet! The good news is, his thyroid is working perfectly! His T4 was at 1.33 (Ref range 0.80-4.70). His kidney and liver function tests were normal. The vet can't see any obvious reason for the increase in hunger nor the vomiting (which is likely from eating too fast). She said it can be because his BGs have been higher. I got the feeling that she's washing her hands of us. She wasn't rude or anything, but she offered a referral to an endocrinologist, so I think she's at the end of her knowledge. That would be perfect; however, the closest endo is in the cities (Minneapolis/St. Paul, MN), which is 3.5 hours away. We scheduled a dental for November 6th to see if that helps. We could have done October 23rd, but I work that day so I wouldn't be able to bring him in.

I'll work on uploading the labs to my spreadsheet. Can someone take a look and see if anything jumps out at you? The only value off was his albumin was slightly high. @Marje and Gracie - Can you perhaps take a look whenever you have a moment?

Thank you so much for the vines and well wishes. At least we know what it isn't! :bighug:

I totally rubbed his belly before we left and told him it was from his Auntie Gill. He loved it! It is amazing how much they look alike, isn't it?!

I'm just a few mins from my Vet & I love that. Ravan hates riding in the car. At least your vet is near if you need her for something. Lou's tests all came out great!

Ravan gets Really hungry when his Bg goes up over 300 , I feed him a spoon of food ( he'd gobble up a plate full if i let him) frequently so he doesn't vomit .
Have a great Day :D

So glad to hear that the labs are ok! Now just to get to the bottom of the hunger issues...he's kind of a big guy - maybe he just needs more? Luci's not that big and she needs more, more, more, more...I feed her frequent small meals...a lot like her mama eats...(although I don't have a sugar issue, I try not to let myself get too hungry - causes me to make poor decisions about food when I'm too hungry)...maybe two auto-feeders...one would allow him to eat a teaspoon or two every half hour...??? Just a thought...probably too crazy...but if he's just gonna puke it up...big meals aren't going to work...our civvie Abbey ate too much too fast the other morning - and she puked it all up too...she hardly ever does that...guess she was too hungry? I've cut her meals in half now - half a portion first thing in the am and the other half a little while later...no more puking.

Good luck with the increase. I'm liking the "no vomit" comments on the SS. :)

Any chance there's an internal medicine specialist, not necessarily in endocrinology nearer to you? Not saying you need one though. 3.5 hours is a long way! Has Lou ever had a complete senior blood panel done? Looks like only partial panels done to date. How is his weight compared to last time?

Me too!! I actually don't know. I'll have to do some research to see if we have any IMs in the area. I'm not sure if he's had an official senior blood panel, just basic chem panels and CBCs. What's all included in a senior panel? Thankfully his weight has been holding pretty steady. In May he was 15.5lbs and he was down to 15.3 today.

The senior panel should have some of the values that are missing on the Labs page. For example, more things like potassium.

Hey Amanda,
Sorry if I’m asking questions which have been asked or answered already, but is he seeing a regular primary care vet or an internal medicine vet? Rather than going to an endocrinologist I personally would see an IM vet. They are familiar with all organ systems and will be able to think outside of just one systems and evaluate the vomiting and behavioral changes from all angles. Also, has he ever had an abdominal ultrasound? I would recommend that if the vomiting continues or doesn’t seem related to how fast he’s eating.

Just my two cents. :bighug:

No worries! Unfortunately not. We're just seeing a regular primary care vet. I was trying to research IM vets in the area after Wendy's comment, but I'm not having any obvious luck yet. As big as this town is, apparently we don't warrant any specialty vets. It's sad because I use an IM doc myself and I think that would be a great idea for Lou. He hasn't had a US at this point. Thankfully he was only vomiting in the morning after his AMPS meal, and dividing it into 2 and feeding at least 30 minutes apart seems to help. He hasn't vomited at all since we started that. If he starts again, I'll definitely keep an abdominal US in mind.
