Taco 9/24/18

OK, kitty angels, I'm back and Tacos numbers were taken all day by his "real" mom , my daughter . I cant tell you how grateful I am that I had a response so quickly on my 911. I'm not new at all to Tacos diabetes , but I still panic when he goes into green from being so high the previous days. I needed to sleep today, my body and brain couldnt take anymore after I had stayed up all night , like I do every night because of taking care of my 43 yo 24/7 son that needs to be monitored at all times and taking care of Taco as he worries me to death and is a constant along with his other 6 fur sister and brothers. So I'm back with his SS up to date , I usually do those in the evening, as I keep an extensive log everyday with his numbers foods and anything else important. Please forgive me for letting you hang , but, all is well, and YES , after over 1 year of Tacos uncontrolled diabetes, I still PANIC, and need hand holding thru this especially this TR, that we just started ,Thanks :)
That’s why we are here.....to help you and Taco and be with you when the numbers cause panic. We’ve all been through it.

Remember that you have the two greatest tools to keep him safe: your meter and food/syrup/honey.

Cindy, I am glad that the cycle played out well. I was a bit nervous as it was your first green that you shot and I felt responsible encouraging you to shoot. I certainly understand needing sleep after an all -nighter. Maybe you could have your daughter fill in the SS during times like this when peeps are waiting for an update? BTW you earned the Balls of Steel (BOS) award today for shooting your first green pre shot.

That's hysterical, but, I hate to burst your bubble, I.ve earned those years ago, BUT, I'll take another set , you can't have too many of those ;) As far as feeling responsible, the way i see it is, I asked for help, I was a wreck and didnt know what to do, I wanted to shoot that 2.25 because I'm so tired of Taco and his antics :) I know it'snot his fault, just sometimes have to put some humor in there. and really want to get him there, Every other time, I've reduced or skip shot and was sorry, but, it was what I had to do at the time, now I'm trying to lean more about how to handle lows and I still want to grab that can of 25 carbs and give it to him , yet I know now, not to. So dont blame yourself , you helped me keep him at 2.25 that he just started and the TR. I need a lot of hand holding right now with this and I hope no one gets angry, I feel as tho I was abandoned in the FB group when the going got tough. So I'm counting on all of you to stick with me until I feel comfortable. I know I sounded kind of rude in my 911 but, that's me and it's hard to read into someone in stress, but I know for anyone here that's been there done that, that I hope they remember where they were at one time or many times :) I think we tend to forget , once our kitties arewell or no longer with us, myself included. Thank you for helping me, I cant thank you enough!!! <3 <3

My daughter will fill in the SS if this happens again, I just didnt even have the energy to tell her to. Again I apologize for keeping all those following hanging. And MOST of my nights I stay up with my son and go to bed when I think the coast is clear and my daughter takes over for his 10A, so she starts at 9A with preparation and is instructed to wake me up with his numbers, and getting woke up with 3 hours of sleep with an 82, scared us both, she woke me up yelling , He's 82 in the green. It's funny afterwards but scary when it happens and you're not used to it. Anyways, Thank you!!

It's 3AM EST, I can see this is going to be a long night again, 7 hours to shot time and already dropping, I'm just not used to this :) Hoping he stays in the safe zone.

I'm still up
Looking good.
Do you have a set feeding schedule?
Taco gets his bigger meals at 10a 10p and snacks in between, but, since his bg is down he's not eating as much, i just had to bring his food into where he was to get him to eat a little something. Otherwise he would have polished that off when I gave it to him at 3A

What bothers me is he seems to drop quickly every hour, that's a first for me besides last night. He seems fine, except for the not wanting to eat his favorite food right now and his numbers dropping quick.
When the numbers start getting into the normal zone (50-120) it means that the food he eats is being properly metabolized and the resulting energy delivered to the cells of his body. So, the ravenous hunger he had when there was not enough insulin to convert food to energy naturally subsides. The dance is changing- keep in mind that Taco is leading.
It's all good.

67 4 hours pre shot :(

What % carbs are the foods you feed him?
How is his weight- underweight, overweight or just right?
How old is he?
Any other health issues?
13 lbs, just right, 12 yo nuetered male, had a dental last month 4 teeth removed, otherwise good health, no other problems, except the diabetes

Don’t feed and test at +10.

When did you last sleep?
I'm fine , I slept almost all day yesterday, this is my normal, I stay up all night, and sleep most of the day, I have a 43 yo 24/7 care son that just went to bed. I'm good. when the coast is clear my 19 yo daughter will take over with Taco and wake me up if need be. Right now I just had coffee so I'm good for a few hours at least ;)

Do you free feed with TR?

Do you free feed with TR?
Every cat is different (ECID), but generally most people find that feeding several mini-meals throughout the cycle rather than free-feeding works well. Whether you do TR or SLGS, you do want to pick up all food by +10, so that there is 2 hours before doing the PS pokie; this will help ensure that your preshot test won't be food-influenced.

I see that 48....do you have any high carb food on hand? Or Karo? You do want to get him up and over 50. Just feed a little bit of high carb - maybe a tablespoon. You don't want to overfeed because you need him to be a little hungry in case you need him to eat again. You also don't want a scarf-n-barf on your hands, plus we just want to get him to safer numbers but not send him to the moon.

Just lapped up 2 tsp 13 carb gravy, when should I test again?

Ok...hold off on feeding anymore until you test again. Since you're giving that 2tbsp at 8:28, test 20 minutes after that, to give the gravy a little time to kick in.

ok, but gave more , see SS notes , will test at 9A 20 more minutes without more gravy, daughter up and helping Thank you for being here for Taco

Ok...definitely hold off on more gravy (or other food) before testing. Like I mentioned, you do want him to stay hungry in case his numbers come down again, and you don't want an upset tummy from too much gravy. I'm glad your daughter is helping!

Glad to see Amy here as I am fading. You are in good hands.

Looks like Taco is angling for a reduction :D

Regarding the food, like Amy said, ECID

I personally did not free feed. I was dealing with a high dose condition that no one around here (or anywhere else) had ever dealt with. I needed to know that BK would be hungry when I needed him to be. I needed to keep the picture as clear as possible. He got up to 45u per day, part Lantus and part R. I needed the control of a fixed timed diet. Once he regained the weight he lost he got a base diet of 1/2 can FF fed with AM and PM shots, 1/4 can FF at +4 and another 1/4 can at +8 both AM and PM, fed via a timed feeder. That timed feeder was a lifesaver.

When I needed to steer the numbers, I maintained the base diet amounts and timings, adding HC in between as needed.

I maintained that same base diet and timings even after he went OTJ.

You are doing great. Hang in there and hang in here.
I'm off to catch a few zzzzzzzzzs. BBL

Do I do like usual now and reduce his dose at 10A 50 minutes from now? Test again in 30 minutes? I don't think I like this TR thing ;)

Test again in 30 minutes - don't feed again between now and then.

Taco did earn a .25U reduction here with that 48. To be honest, I am a little iffy about shooting at 10:00, though, since his numbers are now HC influenced. I'd like to see if any others chime in about shooting in 50 minutes.

I'm going to take a quick shower, but I will check back shortly.

Congrats on the reduction! And you did great! So glad Amy was around to help you with your first low number.

If his AMPS number is still on the rise and no more HC food was given after the +10 ( 48) you could shoot the reduced dose ONLY if you can carefully monitor him today . Even with a reduction the higher depot could be talking still so be vigilant. He is likely to bounce upward from going under 50 but, maybe not and he could surf along some.

I won't be around as much today but, I will try and keep an eye on you and Taco.

He's at 104 now, he had 2 tsp of 17 carb gravy at 8:35. and nothing since. Should I feed him his regular low carb(3) now and then shoot 2Units at 10A? Thank you. :)
