I’m seeing some issues with some of the SS’s when clicking on the SS link from within FDMB. For example:

--numbers are not correctly color coded if the test is taken at .25, .5, or .75 of the hour; this is not the fault of the member color coding it incorrectly as the colors being filled in are not our usual colors and it’s always the same odd color regardless of the member
--zeroes are on the US SSs if the member is using the World/US SS
--odd columns and other formatting issues are on the US SS if the member is using the World/US SS.

These SSs all look perfect from within google drive or google sheets whether I’m looking at them from my Mac or on my iPad.

I’m trying to figure out why they only have the discrepancies when looking at the SS from within FDMB by clicking on the SS link.

If your SS looks odd when you look at it via the SS link in your signature block, please send me a PM and in it, please let me know if you are entering data using a PC, a Mac, or a tablet/phone. If you are using a tablet or phone, please let me know what kind of device you have (e.g. iPhone or Droid) and what application you are using.

I believe there is a commonality here as most of the SSs with issues are World/US SSs and I can tell numbers are being entered from a device rather than a PC or Mac.

Thank you for your help! By helping me figure this out, it helps all of us giving advice as we are seeing the SS correctly.

Please keep this post bumped for several days. :):):bighug::bighug::bighug::bighug:

Ok.Viewing ss from link in my signature. Remember had this in the past and tried to figure it out. Some of my colors are a shade lighter to accommodate my printer but that shouldn't really be an issue.

Viewing on kindle fire which uses Silk browser. Any manual colored cells are off color or no color. I can not enter data using kindle can only view.

On Samsung S5 phone is where all data is entered. Looks fine no problems.

On pc IMAC (new) no problems looks fine. I rarely look at ss on pc. Occasionally have to format a date or add a row I do it on pc.

Another issue is some ss I view/look at end up in MY Drive. I don't know why or how to stop that from happening.

I use my iPhone X or Mac to access ss on the site. Sometimes, the ss will open in my googles sheets ap - my link takes me there, as well as links of many other members. However, some members’ ss will open in the google sheets website. It’s not as easy to see on the website, as it is in the ap. I don’t know if that has to do with their device or how they set up the link, but that’s something I noticed.

Don’t really know if that info helps at all.

On your FDMB SS link, I’m seeing numbers that should be green as light pink (9/15 +5.5 and +6 a.m. cycle). What I don’t know is if you manually colored those light pink because you like it better or if it’s happening when you enter it from the phone (using Google Sheets app through Google Play I’m assuming?).

That’s always happened. It depends on whether the member set it up by publishing to the web or not or set it up via a tablet and link sharing. Just delete them as it won’t delete them from the board or from the owner’s google drive, only yours.

Thank you!

That’s all normal and it does depend on whether they set it up to publish to the web, as they should, or they set it up through a device app and just use link sharing.

Thank you and vines for Frosty!!!

If they have the @ x.xx it's manually colored to be the blue, green etc (the proper color). On the samsung. Somewhere between the Google's sheets on the phone and fdmb link it changes.

another thing is some times after I enter, the next day the data is missing and I have to reenter it all again.

This is what I’m suspecting......it’s a glitch in the samsung/google sheets because it doesn’t do it from iPads or iPhones that I’ve yet to discover. Are you sure your data is actually disappearing or it’s being whited out by Samsung/Google sheets because that’s what I’ve seen on a few other SSs; the data is actually there but it fades it out. If I change the colors manually for the cell, the data pops up.

Gosh, I haven't looked at Rover's in ages. The spreadsheet (2016) has inserted "0" in every blank box. Desktop Mac 10.9.5. Colours are fine.

Edit: no need or reason to fix this.

Thanks, Marje

I see the same when viewing @Olive & Paula ss on my galaxy tablet.
Thank you!! Can you please open your google sheets on your galaxy tablet and see if it looks the same because if I click on the FDMB link from my Mac or my iPad, I see what you are seeing. But if I open the SS from iPad or Mac without going into FDMB, the SS looks perfect.

Thank you. I bet if you look at it through google drive, it will not have the zeroes. I’m not sure why the US/World sheets are doing that because they are formatted to not do it. I may have to redo those SSs :arghh:

I don't know. It's not there so I just reenter. Next time it happens I will check it out.

The colors are off if I go through FDMB. They are perfect on Mac and Samsung phone.

Wendy is the one who told me about quite some time. And you an i tried to fix it then and couldn't.

If I look at anyone else's ss they seem fine to me except lately all the 0 on some.

I have been helping Tucker (owner Patty) for 2 or 3 months. Patty types the values in the world tab, and they get reflected to the US tab. Just in the past 4 days, the blank (zero) values in Tucker's U.S. now show all zeros. I highly doubt that Tucker's sheet was changed. So this must be a google sheets issue.

I checked the G Suite updates blog - where updates are posted about changes to google sheets, etc. There were changes on Sept 18 and 19, but not to google sheets. However, these issues we are seeing could be a side effect of other changes they made.

Then I checked the google forums to see if other issues with conditional formatting have been reported. BINGO. We have a winner.

It's a new thread, and long. Basically a very similar and NEW issue from Sept 17. We can monitor the resolution in that thread. If that doesn't resolve it, then I could open a new thread. I generally find that google does pretty good fixes on their mainline products like google sheets since many businesses use them.

Through google drive on Mac lapdog (10.11.1), zeros are present upon opening but disappear after 5 seconds.
Zeros do not disappear if approached via FDMB.

Permission given to skip fix on Rover's SS. Still miss that giant marshmallow.

Thanks, Jeff! I was still trying to isolate the issue here before heading to google so I appreciate you doing it. The issue reported there sounds exactly like our issue. I appreciate you helping me keep an eye on that thread and offering to also open a new thread, if necessary. We do use the “publish to the web” option.

I'll watch that thread every day until it resolves. I'm sure Google tests everything before pushing to production (live). That means regression testing as well - geek speak for them testing to ensure the new fixed code didn't break another existing feature.

So it may be one to three weeks to see an update. This is a pretty bad bug, so it will likely get resolved (versus pushed to the back burner).

Yeah it is bad because I’ve done some tests on dummy SSs and changed the formatting; it doesn’t seem to matter what I do to get around it if I embed the link. It’s apparent the issue lies in the embedding.

Thank you!

How do I open it in Google sheets?

I access Gizmo's through Google drive on the tablet but only modify using a laptop.
Are you accessing it on your tablet through the app for google drive or from your internet browser?

On an iPad, if you open try to open it from google drive, it tells you to install google sheets app. I don’t know about android tablets or phones. They might not require that you install the google sheets app. So if you don’t use it, don’t worry. I’m pretty sure Jeff has identified that the problem is on google’s end with some recent updates.

Thank you and the Texas gal in me really loves Gizmo’s avatar. He is rocking that hat!

I assume the app - though I didn't install it - it was pre-loaded? There is a google folder and within that there is a "Drive" icon that I use. Or I just click on the link in my signature in one of my condos.

Take a look at Paula's SS on 07/09 AM cycle @ +6.5 - I am seeing pink on my laptop. I suspect it is manual colored and it is by mistake that it should be green.

That’s one of the glitches brought on by google changes that are trying to be addressed.

I did find a workaround. For cells like that, you have to manually color the cell white and then put it back to the correct color and it will stay.

Are you saying you can edit your SS from within FDMB? You shouldn’t be able to.:p

Georges as is showing the anomalies you mentioned if I view it from the link on the signature, looks perfect if I view it through google sheets, I use android tablet and phone, and a pc. I enter numbers using all three devices can't tell you which device I used when.

The issue seems to be wherever I have coloured the cel manually.

I posted a couple of our spreadsheet examples, reiterating a couple issues into the google forum thread. Maybe they could use them for testing.

Thank you! They haven’t responded yet but I hope they will get a fix for this.

To all who have posted here and have SS issues, the summary is that Google has made some changes which are causing the formatting that we use in the SSs to be affected when the SS link is embedded in our signature blocks in FDMB. That’s why your SS might look perfect through Google Drive or Google Sheets but not through the link.

I’m seeing that those members who use Android phones or tablets are the ones with the biggest issues on the color coding of cells and it’s when they have to manually color a cell. I have found a workaround on the weird coloring of cells although it takes a bit of time/patience to fix but it isn’t difficult. If you have a cell that has a wrong color on the SS when you click your FDMB link, then open your SS in google drive or google sheets, click on the cell, color it white, then color it the correct color. That should fix it but it might take a few minutes to updated in FDMB.

Insofar as the zeroes on US/World SSs, Google is going to have to employ a fix to get that to work right.

Thanks for your patience and thanks to @JeffJ for staying on top of this with Google.

I’ve continued to track the SS issues we are having. To summarize, if you are looking at your SS in google drive as you would to edit it, it looks perfect. However, with “updates” google made a while back, SSs which are embedded (as they are in our links in FDMB) and have conditional formatting, the formatting is messed up.

Here are the things we are seeing:
  • if you enter a number for which the cell needs to be manually colored, the color on the link in FDMB is often a weird pink or red
  • if you are using a US/World SS, the US SS has zeroes in all empty cells (there is a conditional formatting scenario so that the zeroes don’t show but the google issue is causing that to formatting to be read incorrectly....or not read).
I’ve been monitoring this issue on Google Sheets and JeffJ posted some of our SSs. There are many, many google users having this identical issue but Google has not yet made any attempt to fix it. They stated all new spreadsheets with conditional formatting would work correctly but I’ve tried it several times, and they don’t.

I would suggest you check your SS link in your signature block and see if there are color issues. If there are, there is a fix. Open your SS from within google drive or however you normally open it to edit it. Click on the cell that has the weird color and color it white. If the text is a weird color, color it white (be sure you know which cell has the issue so you can find the correct cell once it’s all white). Next, manually color the cell and the text in the correct color. That should fix it on the FDMB link in your signature.

Insofar as the zeroes on the US/World SSs, I’ve tried many, many different formatting experiments to see if I can make them go away and I haven’t found one yet. You can’t delete them or else you will delete the formatting which converts the World numbers to US numbers. So, unfortunately, we will all have to live with that until Google makes a change.

My apologies. If it gets really bad, I might try to make entirely new templates and see if that works but then everyone would have to do a new SS and we really don’t want that headache.

Thanks for your patience and understanding.

Think :D:D:D:D

It really is unfortunate that Google did not listen to their user base. All they had to do, was backout the change that caused the issues. They have pretty much ignored the thread that complains to them about it. If it is not fixed in the next month, I doubt they will change it,.

I agree. I’ve been checking in periodically and as recently as today....no word from them. Thanks for adding the SS examples in with all the others

I'm only using my PC & still having a problem. When I enter in the remarks column & check back later the info is gone, space blank. I've reentered 2 to 3 times & finally give up. This happens sporadically.

I looked at this once and figured out why it was doing that but don’t remember so I’ll have to look at it again. That is different than the google issues.

That's been happening to me for months. I just keep re-entering eventually it takes. When I look at other ss, I now ignore the colors and read the numbers.

@Marje and Gracie if it helps any, it was early April we tried fixing mine. My ss has a row when we started levemir. When manually enter color after that row, everything above the levemir row changed.

I wonder if there is also an issue that android reads the colors differently. My Mac colors are different than excel and Google colors. If I enter on Mac it's a whole different shade palette. Sometimes I get a message "don't can't be found". I remember way back before Google when I worked, the company createf its own Font. But it was recognized by other programs or peripheral devices. The only 2 universal fonts at the time was Times New Roman or Arial. Don't know if that's still true now.

I normally enter using phone. I only view the FDMB and ss on kindle. Most ss are okay. The world ss, everyone is messed up.

Just some food for thought.
