Renal threshold the time the kidneys start to become affected. Ideally you want glucose at least under 250. Over that long term, kidneys start to damage because of the excess work and sugar.

Hopefully Nelli was not in the over 250’s for too long
 
Has she ever had her blood pressure taken? Proteinuria can come from high blood pressure as well as kidney disease. The creatinine is low so I wonder about the blood pressure. Max had high blood pressure without kidney disease for a few years. There’s an add on test for proteinurua That IDEXX can run on the blood already sent.

No, she has not had blood pressure taken.
 
I’d want a bp check. I actually did it when Max was 14 as a baseline and was surprised to learn he had high bp. It was primary high bp which I’ve learned is more common than one would think. Usually it’s checked when kidney disease is found. I think it should be part of every senior exam.

I too agree it should be part of every senior exam.
Couple of questions first of all is this something I can do, take her blood pressure myself?
Probably a silly question?
Also, let’s say she might have high blood pressure is that easy to treat?
 
Not silly questions at all. I actually did buy my own machine but even used uts expensive. I waited too long and only used it once. There’s a learning curve. High bp is treated with a pill, amlodipine. I’m not saying Nelli has it. It’s just worth checking. I’d ask about the add on test to the urinalthat checks the proteinuria and maybe just wait and recheck in a month.

Is this an add on test to urinalysis or blood? I think you said blood?
 
The test you want is the urine protein/creatinine ratio test, sometimes call UPCR. With a 4+ protein, you definitely want that test done. Yes, a blood test. High protein can be treated with benazapril. Neko had a high UPCR, it can be an early sign of kidney disease.

BTW, here is a Labs tab on the spreadsheet. It's easier for us to see if you enter the data there. And it's a good way to track changes over time.

Is what Elise referred to proteinurua test the same as UPCR?
@Marje and Gracie had recommended to me, have a UPC test run- this first recommended by her several weeks ago. While at the vet this week I got a little bulb and jar to collect three days of urine samples. This hasn’t been completed yet because Nelli has urinated when I was not around.
I understand clearly th importance of getting this done and am all over it. I will have her blood pressure checked as well.
A Labs tab on our SS has been set up and I have entered in her last labs from June.
There is so much more data on the “sheets” I posted in condo today than there are columns of values (data) to be filled in on spreadsheet? This is the only reason why I posted them on my condo. I wanted the whole picture to be seen.
 
Thanks for doing the lab entry work. I find them so handy I even set one up for the civvies. If you have extra fields on your sheets, just add an additional row. Make sure the reference values are also the same as from your lab, the ones listed matpy not be the same. I also bolder or out in red when a value was out of range.

The urine for the UPCR test should be taken by cystostentesis, not free catch. Neko once forced a free catch test when she peed on the table as they were getting her ready to do the cystostentesis. :rolleyes: The resulting value was way out of range.

As for blood pressure, make sure your vet has the equipment first. Some don't.

Regarding the Lab tab onSS...
In addition to many test (we have results of) missing on SS which I will manually enter, there were some with ranges that did not lineup with (our) reference value?
For example-
Chloride. We are a low at 113 (reference range 114-126) NOT SO on SS Lab tab
Amylase. We are in normal range (623- 2239) NOT SO on SS Lab tab
MCHC. We are in normal range (28.5-37.8) NOT SO on SS Lab tab
Platelets. We are in normal range (155-641) NOT SO on SS Lab tab
Why would they not be same? Is it IDEXX off or SS off and, why/ should... matter to us?
I will take her in for cystostentesis, not take pre-catch.
As far as blood pressure equipment goes… I asked the vet this evening if they could take her blood pressure and how much it would cost. I asked about the cost because when we were at the ER a couple months ago they wanted to take her blood pressure and the cost was $89! I declined. In retrospect now I guess I should have coughed up the cash be it high or correct cost and had her blood pressure checked :-(.
They told me blood pressure check could be done and the cost was $26? How would I know if they have the correct equipment? Is there something specific I should ask? Thank you so much Wendy I appreciate your time and interest in Nelli :bighug::bighug::bighug:

The Doppler blood pressure machine is preferred. My vet had the other kind but it worked fine for Max as he was a large boy. I brought my Doppler in to test and it measured the same.

Different labs have slightly different normal ranges, so use the ones you got from your lab and replace the generic ranges on the SS.
