My Daisy was just diagnosed

Hi all,

We took our cat Daisy to the vet the other night because she just wasn't looking right. This morning, we learned that her blood sugar level was 509. I brought her back today to have her urine tested for ketones. She tested negative, but since her blood sugar was so high, the vet recommended hospitalizing her for a few days to try to get her stabilized.

Hi and welcome Andrea. I'm sorry to hear that you had to leave Daisy at the vet, but happy to hear that she is negative for ketones. I suggest you start reading about feline diabetes and getting ready for Daisy to come home so you can care for her. "There's no place like home"! If you haven't already, begin by reading the "Getting Started" section on the Home page, (HOME) then the "Education" section. Not everything is going to sink in right away, but it's good to get started and familiar with the new aspect of your and Daisy's lives. FD is treatable and many cats continue to live long happy lives.
I realize you probably feel a little dazed and overwhelmed, we all felt that way at first, but we learned, our cats learned right along with us (and tolerated our nerves and beginning clumsiness), but it's doable. You can read, question, learn and be prepared for Daisy. If you know what insulin Dr. will prescribe, read about it in that insulin's support group. Post questions in the Main Forum so that more members can see and respond. We are here to help. So, here's a hug to start with, it's the first, but won't be the last. :bighug:]

I opened it, it looks good. You are getting ready! I look forward to your updates and letting us know when Daisy gets home and how things are going.
