He had 1 more gooey poo sometime overnight but was in the LB! He is a little subdued this morning but still bright eyed and willing to cuddle.:cat:

I think it was the fish he stole from my plate. It was red snapper, no breading but had some spice, fried in a little bit of olive oil. The rabbit he has had for awhile...as a small portion and it didn't seem to upset his IBD more than usual except when first introduced.

The one think I noticed is that it has gone from a light brown to a darker brown. Not sure what to think about that. The rabbit? The additional probiotic?

@LizzieInTexas - vet has him on a only turkey diet, which of course I broke by introducing the rabbit (that has the pork in it as I haven't found a single protein source rabbit yet - canned or raw in the stores around here) as it seemed that the turkey sometimes was too much sometimes. He would have an normal poop then a set of the runs, then normal again. Will keep in mind the ones you mentioned. He didn't do well with duck before. Wendy was saying that a mix of rabbit and turkey is a good combination for IBD. All I know is I feel :banghead::blackeye::(:confused: all at once.
 
I am not sure about these great numbers. I am not sure why he is doing so well but I think I will just take it at face value. No gooey poo today, so I am hoping there will be a normal poo in the near future.

I guess i don't know enough about IBD. I thought poultry was not good for it. I suspect Gizmo has it, maybe a mild case or maybe it is all the pancreatitis, but he has been doing much better on the novelty protiens.

And I misunderstood, I thought you were looking for nolvety protein. Sorry :rolleyes::banghead:.

I was...I was looking to add rabbit to his routine, but was having a issue find a single protein source rabbit cat food.


I think chicken is more an issue then turkey. She was concerned as it was poultry but it is not as common as chicken. I think with IBD it is a crap shoot on what works or doesn't.
 
Gizmo was diagnosed with IBD in February. All he had ever eaten was turkey or chicken. He's now off of all poultry. I've switched him to a mostly raw diet.

Rayne makes a rabbit cat food. I have no idea what the carb count is, though. ZiwiPeak has a lamb and rabbit. Their line of food contains no gums, carrageenan, etc. Hare Today also has raw rabbit.

@LizzieInTexas - there's a great website for IBD: Raw Feeding for IBD Cats. Even if you don't feed a raw diet, the information about supplements and everything else is excellent.
 
Thanks @Sienne and Gabby (GA). How is IBD diagnosed? Gizmo usually has more constipation issues. Rarely diarrhea even during pancreatitis. Really usually with a diet change, i have learned to just ho dlow with that. I know he has done much better on the duck and is really liking the venison. My biggest issue is finding LC novel proteins that are also low phosphorus.

I bookmarked the link and will read over coffee in the morning.

With my Gizmo and I suspect with other cats, the question was whether the problem is IBD vs lymphoma. He had an ultrasound which is not a definitive test. I went back and forth with my vet, did a ton of reading, and talked to a few MDs who are animal people. My vet was pushing for a biopsy which was what we did. She didn't feel that she would be able to get an adequate sample with an endoscopic biopsy so she did a surgical biopsy. The pathology came back with the IBD diagnosis. Cats with IBD are treated with steroids and novel proteins and supplements like probiotics. Lymphoma cats are treated with chemotherapy. The problem is that treating with steroids while the appropriate choice for IBD, would be a problem with lymphoma. Giving a cat with IBD chemo because you don't have the definite diagnosis, isn't a great plan, either. So, he gets prednisolone, a rotation of raw lamb or raw pork and probiotics.
