9/2 Jasper pmps 311 follow up

Sorry but could you pls add his name to the subject line :) Thank you...easy oversight to make.

Looks like he is bouncing today....likely from a potential fast drop last night or he could have gone lower than 64. It’s not a bad bounce so let’s hope he comes back down. You could probably give him fluids at anytime now.

I don’t know if you are aware of feline hepatic lipidosis also called fatty liver disease. When a kitty doesn’t eat or has a significant reduction in calories, fat becomes stored in the liver. Cats are not metabolically able to handle this as other species can and so it results in fatty liver disease which can be fatal if not treated and the issue corrected. That’s one of the reasons, besides helping to thwart future DKA, we want to be sure that he is getting lots and lots of calories.

I’m glad he’s eating some on his own but I want you to be aware that even a gross reduction in calories can be cause for concern.

Yeah I know, just one more thing to worry about. Honestly I'm getting completely strung out by all of this and there's only so much I can do. I'm worried about work tomorrow and I can't keep doing this.

Is cocktail shrimp okay for him? A whole meals worth? It's the only thing I can get him to eat aside from the occasional 5or 6 dry kernels. Then there's the nutrical

I do understand that the feeding is a stress on you. I’m very sorry. He can have the shrimp for a few days but it’s not balanced so you really can’t go very long on that and just 4-5 pieces of dry. If he the majority of what he was eating was balanced with just a few shrimp, it would be ok.

I’m assuming you don’t have a job where you can take him to work? Some do (I did) so I thought I’d ask.

No I don't. I was already going to ask how often do you all test and shoot and etc. How to manage an 8 hour day? Is going back to 12 hour attentiveness (if needed) a pipe dream? All of you seasoned members have 4 or 5 tests a day on your SS and I just can't do that. Before my mistake with the pen he went a long time with no problems. Did the dka and brief absence of lantus (and addition of R) really drive him so far off? How long am I looking at until he's "stable?" I understand I need some blood work for underlying things, but I have to go to work to be able to get them.

With that being said, I'm a happy guy for the moment. I came home and he ate a full meal. Sometime between +5 and +7. Full can of feast and 2 shrimp.
Also, Id assume he's running high tonight from yesterday's lows.

Great news on him eating a full meal!

Oh Aaron, I know the stress you must be feeling. Hope you can get some much needed sleep tonight. :bighug:

Do you work close enough to home that you could come home mid day to test and check on him?

Sort of, just still a pain and productivity killer with the drive. Subcu went okay (figitty) although, he bled visibly (coat) on removal. However, immediate interest in food after (I forget who gave me that tip, but hats off) and ate a qtr of 5.5oz wellness pate chicken w/some glyco

He’s your little buddy though Aaron, right? He needs you really badly right now. I’m just sayin’- couldn’t not pipe in :-|

That makes my day to hear he’s eaten that much! Since he’s eating the canned food, I’d try to focus on more of that and less dry. I wouldn’t abolish it in case you need to leave it out when you are at work since he’s not that far from his DKA episode unless you can get an auto feeder and he will use it. Then you could increase the canned and slowly eliminate the dry as he’s eating the calories he needs.

Although we haven’t discussed any type of protocol or method to follow, this information on working full time and following TR might help you. The premise is still the same. We have lots of members who work.

@Marje and Gracie “...lots of members who work.”
OMG, Amen. Me- 10/12 hours 5-6 days a week :-\
Thanks for the reminder... now I am really tired o_O

What are your work hours, Aaron, and we might be able to come up with some schedule suggestions. Do you have to work tomorrow on Labor Day or do we have a day to play with on timing?

When you get the PMPS, you can edit the subject line so it reads:
9/2 Jasper PMPS XXX

Where XXX is the BG and then add numbers as you go. I think if we’d suggested you do that last night, someone would have seen that big drop sooner. :) Thank you!

He’s been pretty flat yellow today as he’s bounced. Flat yellow can often proceed bounce clearing. He popped up at PMPS which could indicate a high before the break (bounce clearing) so I’d be sure and get a +2 and see if he’s starting to drop.

I certainly hope he's cleared the bounce. As far as work schedule I don't have a set one it varies, usually start around 9, gone for 6-8 hours. I'll will try to do my due diligence.

Even though the 291 is a drop persay, he might have been slightly elevated as I was angry with one of the other animals

Oh wow....you have more than him to care for? I thought it was just Jasper.

You can still count the +2 as being the same as the PMPS.

If you have to be at work by 9, that’s going to mess with your shot time. I wouldn’t suggest shooting two hours early...or even more than an hour if you aren’t there.

Yeah I know I'll have to work in coming home, I'll be shaving it by a half hour each shooting.

And no, the house I'm living in is a zoo though and their cat is a pos and pisses on my things at the slightest open door. This time my mattress

Oh no....on the other cat. I’m sorry about that....that’s so difficult. Not good for you and I’m sure it stresses Jasper.

Great job on the testing last night so you could see it was ok for you both to sleep.
