So when presented with a selection of meal options, 9 Lives is the winner. I am guessing that's because he knows it was actually bought for my roommate's cats. But it's only acceptable now if he can eat part from the plate and part from the can. So here I sit, bleary- eyed, and coffee-desperate, transferring food from vessel to vessel at the indication of his nose. At one point I dared divert my attention to put the meter back in its case, and he stopped eating and calmly gave me a stern stare until I resumed watching him without distraction. He has me completely at his beck and call, the rascal.

At least no repeat of yesterday's low AMPS. I increased him to 2.5. I wanted to do more sooner, but he hit some strange swings. I know his organs are likely not working normally anymore.

Try to think Positive about his Health! He's eating, that indicates he's feeling OK.
His internal organs might be healing? You don't know what his body is capable of!
Animals ( and us) are a lot stronger than were believe. He looks like he's doing Good!
Take one day at a time. Love can do amazing things! If you're stressed or sad when you're with him I'm sure he feels it. (Not Good)

Think Happy Thoughts :joyful::joyful::joyful:

Have you ever tried a small piece of raw liver? My cats LOVE a bit of liver I give it to them a few times a week! Or some lightly cooked Chicken? (I feed raw for 16 years ,never had a problem.)

I feel they need the BEST possible food ,especially if they have health issues! I feed when ever they want, none are overweight.(I don't give any commercial treats either, the bit of liver is a treat!) I think their health issues are genetic & the the 3 of them are over 16 yrs old.

Here's an example of what can sometimes happen.I had a cat named Daisy. She was 20 yrs old & I thought doing great. One day I noticed a spot of blood on the floor. I checked her paws but couldn't find anything wrong. It happen again' so i took her to the vet. He looked at the blood under a microscope & told me it was Cancer in her foot!
I was shocked! He suggested surgery. I said ,"she's 20 yrs old, I don't think she'll live thru surgery!" He told me either way the cancer will kill her if I don't remove it. I was so scared, cried till I couldn't anymore. I said OK to the surgery.

Daisy did just fine. He removed part of her foot.In just a few days the bandages were off & she was walking like nothing had happened! My Daisy lived to be 23 years old! She died peacefully one day laying next to me while we took a nap together.

One more story. My Sasha was 16 yrs old & her teeth were nasty I brought her in & after blood work I was informed they could not clean her teeth because she was in the late stages of kidney failure! I was shocked, devastated!

I started researching everything about Kidney failure. I came across an article about using an herbal formula to strengthen the Kidneys. I got it & started giving Sasha a few drops in a teaspoon of water every night.

To the Vets amazement Sasha continued to do great. She lived to be 21 ,5 years after she was "diagnosed" with kidney failure! She also died peacefully in my bed during the night.

Each kitty is Different. Don't give of Hope. No one knows what might happen or how long they might live!

Just shower them with LOVE & positive thoughts (thoughts are things! I believe they really can influence what happens)
Give them GOOD food & Love & at least we know we did our best! And they will know they were LOVED! :)

Hi. Thanks JoyBee! It's great to "meet" another dedicated critter person.

Trust me, giving up is not in my realm of possibilities, sometimes to a vet's frustration. This house has become a sanctuary of sorts for critters who have challenges. While some folks get excited for puppies and kittens, I am drawn to the gray faced seniors. We have a full-spectrum of fur, each with his or her own story.

You can find Grandpa's story in some of my older posts, but in a nutshell I was advised by two vets on June 20 that euthanasia should be considered. Obviously I disagreed. Three ultrasounds later, vets have no idea how he is still alive. My answer is that we aren't telling him that.

So we go through periods of not eating followed by periods of eating great. Somedays we spend the day sleeping, others we play. In addition to ECID, we live by EDID - every day is different. I have no idea how much longer we'll have him, and I don't want to know. Today is what matters, and today he's right here.

Thanks again for your inspiring stories. You're awesome!

Did Grandpa really get a 58 on the AT yesterday? That would be decrease the dose, not increase.

As for feeding, whatever you do, don't start feeding him on your fingers. We had one member here who started that, and then her cat wouldn't eat any other way. For over a year!

Yes. He hit a 58 and then started climbing after eating and kept climbing despite his 2.25 dose a couple hours later. I took him to the vet along with his spreadsheet. She and I studied the numbers together for quite awhile. I told her I had been considering going up .25 and she agreed to the change, but asked me not to do it last night. We tested up until midnight and set the clock for a middle of the night check. He had leveled off in the 300s with no repeat of the previous day's low.

I decided to look at the 58 as an anomaly and looked at the overall sea of reds and pinks and gave him 2.5 this morning. He has stayed very consistent in his numbers today. He is more active and alert and seems to feel better than yesterday. It seems a decrease would keep the numbers high, wouldn't it?

Uh oh. I hadn't resorted to finger feeding, but I had graduated to spoon feeding. I was getting close to that point of no return

Ugh! Just when I'm trying to get him back on track I shoot a fur shot. Grrrrr. I even lifted a few tents until it seemed right. Another cat ran up and sniffed the site after I shot so I touched him. Sure enough it was wet and my hand came away with a distinctive smell.
