Can one of you all look at Buddy's SS? I am so confused. He has never gone higher at +2. I have scoured my house and I can't find any evidence that he has gotten into food. He did so good last night and today and now he's skyrocketed.

Could this be a bounce from the blues? Could the small amount of extra food I gave him cause this much of a jump? I'm was wondering about my glucometer but it seemed accurate earlier.
I also notice that he is acting like he did weeks ago - going from water bowl to water bowl so that makes me think he REALLY is that high.

One step forward, 2 steps back. :( I hate this journey.

296 and 318 are really pretty much the same number....there's no statistical difference.

Remember, even on the same drop of blood and the same meter, you can get up to a 20% variance from one test to another.

True, true. My question about his big jump wasn't about the 296 and 318; I was actually talking about the 134 and 296 but I didn't make that very clear.

My other concern was that he didn't drop after getting the pm insulin even though he always has before.

Also, how do you deal with the almost 50 point difference between the two Relion glucometers (at my PM +4)? If mine is reading 50 points lower than the other, which one is accurate? I'm just thinking about those nights when he's been in the 50s. How does one know if an 80 is an 80 and not a life-threatening 35?

You really have to choose one meter and go by the numbers you see

If one meter is going to run a little lower than the other, it's going to run lower all the time. Think "trends" instead of individual numbers.

I was actually talking about the 134 and 296 but I didn't make that very clear.

Totally normal....and yes, feeding can give a bigger bump than we'd think...it depends on the cat. That's why we suggest getting some +1's now and then so you learn what kind of food bump to expect with your cat.
