It's never a good idea to re-shoot if you think you gave a fur shot. You never know if some insulin got in and then you could give too much insulin. Nelli may be high today, but it's better to be safe and not have her to too low if you give too much insulin.

Do NOT give another shot. You have no way of knowing if any insulin was injected. Members have sometimes been rather surprised that when they thought they gave a fur shot, some insulin actually got in. Better to have a cycle of high numbers than give a second shot and have a hypoglycemic crisis.

I was worrying about the “what if” as you mentioned... what if some insulin did get in? What now Krystina!
Poor Nelli... within 48 hours she misses 2 shots.
Thank you again so very, very much for your wisdom and advise :bighug:

THANK YOU . As my head and heart said NO, don’t do it Krystina, a sliver of me filled another syringe- befor I shot I shouted out here.
Thank you, thank you, thank you thank you so much.
How many times because of this potential miss, would you recommend I test today?

I third the "NO SHOT" after an alleged furshot. There were times I was 99.99% positive too and by the next cycle, I was very surprised at the low number. Some insulin can get it, often more than you think and also the depot can help you out in situations like this.

Safety first.

Happens to everyone Krystina! And it's usually at the worst times...I've done the same thing! Just when I felt Luci needed it the most and hit the plunger before I hit her! Never, never, never try again...just let it go until the next scheduled time. Once I pushed the needle right thru to the other side of the skin I had pulled up...OMG! It's a wonder I didn't give myself the insulin that time! I felt the cool drops on the other side...and smelled that Lantus smell...ugh...I don't like that smell...but I knew that was 'it'...wasted that one...oh well...Luci and I got a pokey break that day for the most part - I checked her a couple of times - both of my furshots resulted in somewhat steady numbers for her - that's the depot drug for ya.

Have good day - it'll be fine - not your last fur shot... :)

Thanks Sue.
After having a AMNS day before yesterday... getting her FIRST (yeah!) blue yesterday... I was quite excited going into...” let’s see what today brings”
Dang it!
Tomorrow will be another day, right?!?

Happens to the best of us - even me :p:p........just joking!! We all do it no matter how much experience we have. Always err on the side of caution and safety. Remember that all our kitties were in need of insulin long before they had the Dx and we caught it, so missing a dose is not entirely the end.........

Thank you Sienna.
Thank you Shawna.
Thank you Paula.

I am very confused and do not understand-
I expected her to go up in test readings today... She is going down?
Took a (what I thought was a AMPS) (6a prick and a 10a prick).
6a- 283; 10a- 225
Is everything ok with her?

Looks like "some" insulin got in. That's why we don't reshoot if we do a fur shot. Speaking as a fur shot professional here. @Ella & Rusty & Stu(GA) had a fabulous system, a fur shot jar. A dollar goes in for each fur shot. End of the year, buy a nice bottle of wine. :)

Did you smell the injection site and smell Lantus? See/feel any liquid?

you might be seeing with lower numbers is the power of the depot.

That's what I was thinking...there's always that depot to think about - Luci has missed a couple of shots...and she still went down...not way down...but down nonetheless (March 4 and June 2 - we missed two shots, one was FS, one was NS)...at least she didn't rocket skyward...we took a bit of a pokey break - still got a couple just to see how she was doing...

Smelled injection site and smelled Lantus, yes.
See/feel any liquid, no.

On the spreadsheet, I would put FS for furshot, instead of NS. NS usually means a deliberate or forgetful skip - no attempt made. FS means some insulin might have gone it.

Oh, one other thing you might be seeing with lower numbers is the power of the depot.
Thanks Wendy.
I have put FS in NS place :). I’ve also added a +9. She’s staying very flat today?
I understand (sorta) the “depot”.

She’s looking better!!! If you have any latitude at all in moving the shot time tonight, you can always shoot an hour early tonight to get ahead of numbers going up any higher. Then you’d be fine to shoot at your regular time tomorrow morning. It would be an hour later than tonight and back on your normal shot time but that’s ok.

Marje-
Thanks. Yes she has dusted off pink and now is the color yellow. I’ve been telling her she looks so pretty in blue :bighug:
