How many days does it take a kitty to become unacclimated to a protein??? Precisely six. Six days. That is all. Well, at least for this kitty because, oh my lands..
*Sigh* Okay, I might not be right in this, but hear me out.
One thing I have learned about Pig is that what goes in seriously effects his BGs, but not just in the sense of carb count = higher sugar. In the sense that he is very sensitive to input. Very. Well, so I had him fairly well acclimated to the pork. At least I thought I did. We never really saw solid poos on it and his numbers were fairly erratic. Granted, this could have been a by-product of SRT.
Okay, so then I learned that the company I purchase food from will not always have certain proteins in stock and decided that I needed to acclimate him to at least one more protein to avoid any unexpected changes. Intro the lamb. We had the initial intro period of higher numbers and spots of nausea. When that chilled out, he was pooping like I have never seen before. Of course, his numbers were still higher and a bit more erratic owing to the constipation. Gave lactulose and all was well. Then he hit a reduction.
Well, okay. So right after the reduction I started giving pork again, because he should have not developed anyting to it in the short time he was away from it. Six days with pork cutlets to maintain his tolerance. Numbers went nuts. Was it the depot being drained? Instability from the BCS? Certainly could and can be. To be honest, I still do not know for sure what it is.
However, I decided to try a thing. I gave only Lamb after ps last night. I gave pork at ps this morning. I gave only lamb today. Numbers magically fixed themselves. Could it be the depot settling? Could it be the protein? I have no clue.
What I do know is that I am going to stick with just the lamb for now and give Lactulose to combat constipation, because really his poo was glorious and this speaks to health for me. Then, after we see a good solid run of good numbers, I will include the pork. Slowly. I want to eliminate everything else as a possibility. I need to know for sure if he is that sensitive to dietary changes or if it is merely the wonky depot playing games with my head.
**Side note - he became pretty nauseous immediately after restarting the pork. Licking litter and drinking a ton of water. Same as with the dirt and when I tried SEB. Even if input is not effecting the numbers so dramatically, they do effect how he feels. **
