Tiger and the squid

So, we've been dealing with Tiger's diabetes for about a month, with ... really no results. His preshot tests were always high, we increased his insulin, and never really saw LASTING results. The vet said he was metabolizing his insulin too fast, it was wearing off before the 12 hours, which is why he was still high.
I've been feeding him Tiki Cat, and Fancy Feast for the most part. My doctor was interested in the zero carb foods, but suggested m/d (among a few others) every time we saw her. She said low carb was good, but zero carb wasn't so good because the insulin needs something to work off of.
I know there are folks here who have GREAT results managing their cats' diabetes with the zero carb, but it just doesn't seem like it was working for me and Tiger. So, I caved and got a few cans from the vet during our last visit. Now, don't get me wrong. Tiger doesn't LOVE the m/d but we went through two cans (Which is a struggle because Discordia doesn't need the special food and it's so much more expensive so I'm trying to keep them separate for meal times)
Now, I've been laying off the testing just a little bit recently, given the lack of results I've seen. And I've given Tiger Fancy Feast for his past three meals (Two dinners and a breakfast) but his numbers today ... They're just great????
I think I'm still going to talk to my vet about switching to Lantus when I'm done with this vial of Vetsulin, but I'm also really considering ordering some more m/d, and maybe alternating with the regular food. I know I've made threads about feeding m/d and the answer seems to be ... fairly unanimous that it's too high carb, but ... I don't know. That's the only thing that's changed this weekend, a few days of the m/d.
