HAS ANYONE TRIED PETSURE GLUCOSE TEST STRIPS???

Hi EVERYONE who helped save Elliott's life and sent him into remission!! I miss all of your expert 24/7 help that led me to confront DVM on why he ordered NPH when Lantus was preferred insulin. Obviously, I switched to your experts while you all guided me CORRECTLY minute by minute..No kidding..not being a "cat person", prior to joining FDMB, I had no idea that "cat people" cared so much. Elliott went into remission in 4/2016..so when Suzie (10 lb chihuahua) was diagnosed with D.M., I had hoped you could make an exception and help Suzie..but do realize she is not a cat..However, what many don't realize is that , "No diabetic dog forum can? or will?l do what FDMB members do." Don't get me wrong..FB and K-9 forum members are good people that care and try to advise to come extent..but do not keep? or share? ss's that I found so valuable in comparing patterns (not so much actual results) ANYWAY!!! I spend > $400.00/month on AT strips along with backup FS strips. My plan was to be able to switch to FS that is cheaper but actually use FS as a backup to compare results especially because I worry about missing the nadir time and accurate reading. When looking for good prices on AT, PETSURE GLUCOSE STRIPS keeps popping up...HAS ANYONE ATTEMPTED USING THEM? They are specifically made for Alphatrak meters. I have not purchased any but the PRICE is so good, I simply wondered why I cannot find reviews..Any comments would be greatly appreciated..This is my Suzie...and her ss: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1O1YNDHz-t4REns_tbAN6D_M3AYT6_kgqbHE7JWo6kSM/edit#gid=0
Thanks for reading!!! Fran

PETSURE INFO: http://pharmatechsolutions.co/products.html
I haven't. I have been using insulinx strips from eBay. I spend about $10-13 for 50 and they are very accurate in the Alphatrak

wow..I have not heard of "insulinx". Have you compared results against AlphaTrak? I will look this up..Because I have 3 AT meters, I just ordered the Petsure after reading their insert and will compare results..Thanks for the info. Petsure insert...20180614_PetSure_Insert_English.pdf

I'll be very interested to see your comparisons. Here's the comparisons I've done.

Well..I was not happy with PS result #1 compared to AT..Freestyle usually better comparison..but will try to use "same" meter at 12a to see if using 3 meters could affect results. Janet NJ...WOW..your results are great..So you use Freestyle InsulinX in a freestyle meter??? How did you choose this over all of the others... My results are for Suzie (not Elliott) Her ss is below:
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1O1YNDHz-t4REns_tbAN6D_M3AYT6_kgqbHE7JWo6kSM/edit#gid=0

WELL..P.S...Wow...we'll see how wrong I might be...I shouldn't jump to conclusions after one test??...Using the "same" meter at 12 am-AT strip=134 and 12 am- PS strip =134 !! Poor Suzie..I couldn't get the FS test result..will get more results before reporting again.

Another P.S...The reason I bought 3 meters was to research for accuracy because ZOETIS told me (among other things in our many conversations, after once asking why results were always higher if repeating test), " Do not repeat test immediately..You will likely not get an accurate result." And so, I bought 3 AT2 meters. NOW, I am wondering if I need to compare AT vs FS vs PS with the same meter..It's NOT EASY switching codes if comparing 3 different strips. And though, I have gone from 7-8 boxes (with Elliott the cat because he was on Lantus that I liked alot but kept me up all night) to 3-4 boxes/ month (with Suzie now on Vetsulin)+ buying freestyle Lite as well...the cost is overwhelming

My comparison is using insulinx strips and alpha track strips both in the Alphatrak meter.

I have 60 PS strips headed my way as we speak and will also be trying them in just one AT meter. I'll share any comparisons as soon as possible.
And thanks for the compliment, Tigger is now blushing!
OKAY...A dog person just switched code to #36 (same as AT vial code) so I changed code to 36 (dog) with last test:
I have 5 results: Last one (at #36) very close!!!
6pm yesterday AT 330 PS 298
10pm " AT 137 PS 129 FS 149 (3 meters) PS code #20
12 am today AT 134 PS 134 (using same meter) PS code#20
1:35 am AT 345 PS 293 FS 260 (same meter)... difficult to do
10 am AT 288 PS 274 (same meter) PS code #20
12pm AT= 205 PS= 201 (same meter) PS code #36

Apparently, Petsure is telling customers to try different codes (e.g., #44, etc.).The dog person is testing against AT with code #36 and got only a 2 point difference. However, she thinks these are "knockoffs" like many others since co. has no set absolute standards?? And wonders where they got code #20. I don't know..but will keep testing PS against AT for awhile. Right now, it's hard to assess Suzie's BG because it has been off for a couple of days but has nothing to do with strips??

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1O1YNDHz-t4REns_tbAN6D_M3AYT6_kgqbHE7JWo6kSM/edit#gid=0

my first batch of AT strips were #20 for cats - it was the 25 count vial that came with the meter - so maybe its a standard? . . . All others so far have been #38 for cat (#36 for dog)

Another P.S...The reason I bought 3 meters was to research for accuracy because ZOETIS told me (among other things in our many conversations, after once asking why results were always higher if repeating test), " Do not repeat test immediately..You will likely not get an accurate result."

Wow. I've been really struggling with trusting my AT after repeating a couple of tests this week and getting huge jumps on the immediate repeats. The second readings were 100+ and 60+ mls higher than the first ones. Did your contact give any reason why an immediate retest would be so different? Thanks!

NO..I don't know if they know what they are talking about though...unless it's like taking a pt's BP..When I take a BP, it's usually higher if I repeat it right away???I don't know what to trust anymore but AT and Freestyle light seem to be what I may stick to for now..The purestrip results whether #20 or #36 have been inconsistent..I tested the glucose controls and noticed PS on the plain AT glucose solution was way off, whereas the F.S was only 10 points different from the AT strip..At 6pm.. AT=377 PS=283...I'll test PS until they are gone but will likely stay with F.S. and AT for now...I am quite interested in that InsulinX used by JanetNJ..Her results are quite good. BTW..my husband does the 6 am and 6 pm BG..strangest results this am to begin with but 1st AT was 93, repeated AT was 125..so who knows???? I don't use same meter for FS...I call AT meter #3 and my FS meter #2 and if not tested together, I write AT in bold and FS in regular type..I am so tired of all of this research testing..It is exhausting!!! ..

There's no difference between a 93 and a125. Rarely are the numbers ever going to be exactly the same.

I'm also interested in the insulinx. I have 30 PS strips on the way. I also just bought a NovaMax Plus for ketone testing, but I bought a box of glucose strips as well. I have a Freestyle Neo, but it takes more blood than Grandpa's old ears want to give. I'm with you, I'm tired of testing and always wondering if I'm getting accurate info. I thought when I bought the AT that I had made the best choice. Now I'm swimming in meters and strips and still unsure.

I am going to buy Insulinx and give them a try..still comparing PS, FS and AT at times..I JUST CALLED "PETSURE".. After telling me NOT to change codes. She claimed 20 and 22 used for dogs and cats respectively. Then, she spoke with a supervisor who said..Try code 2 or 4??????? She had me test about 8 strips with control solution with AT and PS..VAST DIFFERENCES!! I explained it's just glucose solution so they should not be way off...She said that electronically with the meter? or strip?...they were reading the extremes. I do not know what this really means. If any of you get some acceptable results, please let me know..Thanks..I am moving on to Insulinx when I can get them!!!

I have only done 3 trials so far, plus the control solution first thing.

AT#38 PS#38 PS#22
control solution: 151 163 159
8/20/18 @7PM: 596 541 517
8/21/18 @12AM: 581 621 600
8/21/18 @7PM: 511 443 415

So, the control solution trial was very close, regardless of code. But aside from the set in the middle the numbers varied greatly!
Especially AT#38 VS the PS #22 which is what the vial says to use. A one hundred point difference this last time! Admittedly, the
numbers often go a bit higher when I recheck Tig, even with 2 AT strips, despite no one being able to tell me why (I even switch
ears sometimes lol). But for scientific purposes I tested the strips in a certain order the first time and then in the reverse order today.
PS (set at #22) still came out 80/100 points LOWER. Now I have 50 FS lite strips headed my way. InsulinX have been harder to find.
Which doesn't make me feel confident in using them long term but we'll see.

The insulinx I get on eBay. At the moment I have 6 boxes of 50, 1 box of 100, and 8 boxes of 50 on the way. I need to stop telling people about it though... It will drive the prices up. ;)

I'm tempted but scared to buy from ebay - its seems sketchy for medical equipment . . . even just strips for some reason. What's a "great price" that you've gotten recently?
I found some on Surplus Diabetics, Inc - 50 for $16.99 and free shipping . . . if ebay is better I might be tempted :)

I buy from Ebay often (and ADW if they send me a coupon)..I am satisfied with Freestyle lite strips and purchase them when 50 is $20.00 or less. if all is going well, I use Freestyle Lite at 10 and/or 12...depending on results...sometimes higher than AT sometimes lower than Alphatrak but the price for Insulininx on Ebay seems higher than price at Walmart...We'll see. BTW..last few PS results very close to AT and FS. I have reverse testing..changed meters,etc..I will try Insulijx if I can get them at decent price..Otherwise, I'll stick with AT and FS lite...I might buy another PS..haven't decided yet.

I now have some InsulinX headed my way as well. I will have to do the comparisons separately though - I can barely get 3 readings with the AT/PS strips as it is before Tig shakes and splashes blood all over me lol

It's getting a little crazy us checking every manufacturer but "We do love our babies"..BTW....although confusing, I must admit my AT vs PS were quite close recently..ATmeter #3-AT=139...ATmeter #1-PS=134, AT 130...PS...137 Also with freestyle comparison very close as well FS=96...PS=105... AT=145, FS=147....However, I have had a couple of crazy results...see my ss if you wish further results...I just bought more AT, FS and am waiting for a reply to an offer on InsulinX..I am anxious to see your results with InsulinX too...Good Luck (P.S. 3 readings often not enough blood for me..I just tested ear at 12 noon..usually do upper pad of front feet..Good Luck to us all!!!!

I had expired strips and didn’t see a difference. They were maybe 4-5 months expired.
We use expired eyes drops all the time at work. I take home expired artificial tears and allergy drops and use them no problem.
However, some crazy mother instinct in me sees expired strips and is like, NO WAY!!!!! Human minds are crazy lol. Most of the
time expired means less effective so wont hurt you. With strips I see it as less accurate . . . . my bank account may cause me
to change my opinion soon though. AT $trip$ are no joke!

Also I ended up buying 2 boxes of InsulinX on ebay - they had a 2020 exp date listed. Today I got a call from the seller saying only
one box expires in 2020, the other exp 11/19 - would that be okay? I was like, "lady, they could exp 11/18 for all I care - do you not
realize how fast I'm gonna use them? Less than $20 for 50 vs $50 for AT. Fingers crossed . . . . though I must also say my PetSure
results are coming out amazing - just no rhyme or reason to leaving the code at #38 or changing to the #22 that comes on the PS
vial . . . so far changing was a great match 2x and leaving at 38 was dead on X3. . . . still comparing.

I have mostly left it on 38 for insulinx strips.

Janet NJ and Moms 2 Tigger and Blu..HAHA..You are so right!!! I use expired stuff all of the time (for me!!) ...never a problem EXCEPT ONCE!!! I can't remember why but needed a Keflex caps for some reason and found my husband's old bottle. Suddenly my body was hot red, lips swollen and then I could not swallow easily but lasted only a few minutes...all subsided within an hour but I ran to get the bottle...The med was > EIGHT YEARS OLD...always check dates for my patients but didn't for me... I do see your point. BTW..Sanjay Gupta (CNN) discussed expiration dates=one on "spam" and though I don't remember ever having spam, he said, 10 years after expiration, the spam was still fine acc to FDA...??? I don't pay much attention to exp dates for a month or 2 or 3 on juices and some foods and for meds a year or so doesn't bother "me" but husband whips them out day after.ANYWAY..I will take your info into consideration for my next purchase since after buying strips and making Ruby Stewbie for Suzie and 5 other dogs, I am spending > $500.00/month..Oh,I am using expired eye gtts right now.I changed my PS code back to 20 (dog) Why? I can't remember..too much testing!!!! I am still interested in the Libre continuous monitoring (to check pattern) but worry about the huge amount of loose skin on Suzie's neck.. There are YouTube videos showing that Libre is being used on dogs..I don't know about cats? Thanks a lot!!!

Well, I re-ordered AT, FS lite, and purchased my first FS InsulinX as well as another PETSURE...was surprised at BG results from Petsure since the 21st (back at code #20-dog)!! Take a look!!!

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1O1YNDHz-t4REns_tbAN6D_M3AYT6_kgqbHE7JWo6kSM/edit#gid=0

1:28 am..Final sob story: When do I just stop doing all this? I missed 12 am BG-noticed this performing test at 1:00 am with AT and FS lite (used last PetSure at 10p)...Results: (to me unusual)
1:00 am- AT=324...FS=277 ..so I repeated test (large blood gtt) on her ear at 1:02 am with AT=279... You can't even count on a pattern at times...I am use to the common responses that mean well but 20% difference is not okay if readings are 80-100...

2:08 am -I have spoken with and written to scientists, Deans of Universities, manufacturers. One member (Biologist) here really cares, Marjorie Blaine, and got her friend MJ (Donavon) with (I think) a Ph.D. in Biochemistry and molecular and cellular biology to help her determine with micropipettes just how inaccurate insulin syringes are. She called me and spoke for 2 hours on her research when Elliott's doses seemed off...AND THOUGH she did not study our issue with BG testing, I wish we could find an expert like her to help us. I have no doubt that here is one...SOMEWHERE!!
Her work does not apply to our Blood Glucose issues but her article shows that there are experts out there that "could" help..but don't..Sorry, I am very upset and tired.
Blaine's article: http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/dosing-with-calipers-updated-w-videos.79851/
I need to get away...
Poor Suzie!!!

GEEZ..more numbers, more codes,etc....Thanks for your info..It helps me determine how...I'm not sure. Are Tigger's BG always that high? Oh Tigger is just getting started..Sorry!!

Finished my first PetSure trial! Here are the results
http://www.felinediabetes.com/FDMB/threads/petsure-strip-trial.201699/

Got the InsulinX trial underway - it is, as @JanetNJ said, fantastic. Its only been 5 comparissons so far but you can tell it is literally just the same strip as AT. They get off charging $1 a strip for pet owners knowing we'll pay it, when this strip is the same and 1/3 the price. Shameful. I got 100 strips for less than the cost of a 50 vial of AT.

You should throw your results into a new tab on your spreadsheet link
I use google sheets like I know what I am doing??? I do not..Chris and China set it up for me years ago..have no idea wnat anything means..If you would like tl rearrange it and fix things..That would be great..HeeHee..I would be glad to provide you with y i fo..BTW..I keep a graph and have to repeat the same result of AT on FS spot even if I did not take 2 samples. I am not sure how to switch fro old cnart to a new one so I keep hiding previous results..My boxes disappear,etc,etc..but Thanks for encouraging me to "learn" or take a course on google sheets!! OH...

NEW THEORY::Maybe... it's the blood gtt!!! First results with FS and FI=exact same=182... 2nd FS=104 and FI= 90..I noticed spontaneous good size blood gtts with both. With test just now, FI 1st=193 and 2nd AT=157..Blood gtt very scant amount with AT test. I ordered more FI and PS too..I surely appreciate all of your members' work.It really helps all of us+It shows just how much "cat people" really "care"...You all are more valuable to our babies than most people will ever know:bighug:

For those using ONLINE USPS= down 2 days I guess... USPS verified and will fix tomorrow evening? Twitter, FB and Ebay users upset over not receiving products and others not being able to use USPS site..I have received all of my strips without any issues but had to join Pirate Ship to send through USPS......Don't stay up 24 hours trying to find out what's wrong..I found Pirate Ship? that uses USPS--hope it worked..USPS said it was reputable..Who knows??? "Click +Ship" closed for maintenance tomorrow.Going to sleep now

Just to put my two cents on this thread, too, I am using the Freestyle Insulinx exclusively in my Alpha Trak 2 meter with no problems so far. I only have a handful of the AT strips left, and I am not planning on purchasing those again, unless they go on clearance. I realize that is highly unlikely. I have wondered about the Pet Sure, but haven't seriously considered it, since the Insulinx are working well so far. I plan on sticking with them, and I SURE HOPE the price doesn't go up!!!

I have wondered about the Pet Sure, but haven't seriously considered it, since the Insulinx are working well so far. I plan on sticking with them, and I SURE HOPE the price doesn't go up!!!

They do seem great. I've added my trial (so far) to Tigger's SS, but honestly, I've already seen how close to the AT strips they are, I may not continue using both much longer. My only worry is about how long they'll be "easily" available. I dislike that the best source for the InsulinX strips is ebay. It seems pretty hit or miss with good deals, expiration dates, etc. I'd feel better if there was a better or even any other place to purchase them! Literally can't find a reasonable price anywhere else, so then it becomes why use them. I mean, I'll take what I can get for now but I'd love to know they are more options. I'm still planning to do a trial with Freestyle Lite as well.

They are $40 for 100 on amazon if they aren't cheap on eBay at some point. That's still a savings of $60 over alphatrak strips.

Update. Someone on amazon had it for $30/100 free shipping

Ibotta?? Do you have to use the cell phone? I use ebay bucks but got the 10% by using cell..not preferable for old ladies like me but to get money back..will look it up.. Thanks. I am using InsulinX + so many different strips, I am getting confused. I've gotten almost exact numbers between InsulinX and AT with a few exceptions. As with other strips, I wish I could understand the perfect results vs the 30 point changes..and yes I do realize the acceptable differences listed but still don't understand if it's the blood content, the site of draw, the meter, the strip...These blood values are from the ear..that I never use (She hates it- It hurts her) but her upper foot pad is getting harder to draw from. In humans, for injection you can find best sites for absorption that can affect BG results..Frank uses upper back right below shoulder. I suggested flanks for thinner skin. Does anyone know where the best absorption site is for animals? BGTW..Thanks for sharing your Insulin. I think Freestyle lite is good ..AND I must say, my criticism of Petsure may have been unjustified..My testing research is confused right now since i just received 4 more boxes of each strip but am testing only InsulinX vs AT last couple of weeks-great results for most!!!!!
126 125
304 300 very close with high result
143 147
254 285..
183 186... just now
325 361 exceptions It's no real biggie..just wish I understood "why" better-other than the hiigh number.
254 285
I can not stop using AT completely (too afraid) but wonder about some AT results when looking at some odd patterns.
I will start testing again with Petsure in a week or so...All of this getting expensive!!!!
AGAIN, THANKS JANETNJ!!!!!

you could get differences like that using the same strips on the same drop. I'd say you got great results.

Yes, I added them to my cart, and I better grab them before the price goes up again. I sure am glad I didn't buy them yesterday when they were $40.

Except for AT, I get the price under $40.00 for 100 strips of Freestyle lite, Freestyle InsulinX and Petsure was 21.95 for 60 strips from company (not expired) Good Luck!!! I hope the prices don't go up..

I had ordered 100 Insulinx from Walmart.com on 8/30 and the estimated delivery was 9/10. When I saw your post about 100for $30 on Amazon, I found that offer and ordered those, too. They will be here on Thursday. Today I looked in my mailbox and found 100 strips. I'm not sure which order these are. I was surprised to see the box marked as a product of Ireland.

I'll use them, but I have to admit that i really like the NovaMax Plus meter. I bought it for ketones, but had to use it when I ran out of AT strips.

What do those of you using InsulinX strips in an AT meter use as a code? The box says no code required, but readings seem very high.
