Yesterday - Brief Lagoon Visit :)

WOW! Look at that lagoon start! We don't get many of these...it'll be a busy testing day today :)

Ok, I'm confused now: This is what I read in the stickies on TR:
  • If kitty drops below 40 (long term diabetic) or 50 (newly diagnosed diabetic) reduce the dose by 0.25 unit. If kitty has a history of not holding reductions well or if reductions are close together... sneak the dose down by shaving the dose rather than reducing by a full quarter unit. See additional notes in the next paragraph about drops into the 20s and 30s. Alternatively, at each newly reduced dose... try to make sure kitty maintains numbers in the normal range for seven days before reducing the dose further.
  • Please do not let yourself become complacent or blasé about drops into the 20s or 30s. Please ask for advice immediately.
  • If your cat drops into the 30s, a full reduction of 0.25u is recommended.
Please clarify the number of times that the 'drop below 50' is counted during a cycle...today I thought since she's dropped below 50 we met the criteria for a reduction - she's down and is struggling to come back up...even the HC food is only getting her back up for a half hour...then she goes back down without it... I've been counting every test as 'below 50' or every test below 40 as meeting the criteria ...however, perhaps I've misunderstood? Is the reduction based on the entire cycle? OR the number of tests during a cycle where she was below threshhold???

Oh my goodness!! I've gotta get ready for work but I hope Luci stays safe for you today! No shenanigans today Luci, I mean it! :p Just stay firmly on the board and away from those sharkies like we talked about!

Ole shark hunter here...yesterday she wouldn't go any further out into the lagoon...and today she's chasing those sharks again! Crazy cat...:rolleyes:

Look at Luci go! Keep eyes on my big man Bella, make him stay away from da sharks:nailbiting:
When will you know if Bella is playing it safe? Hope she isn't chasing the sharks with Luci! Silly girl!! Just cannot leave them alone...earned herself a reducie tonight ... :bighug:

This was a bounce breaking cycle. I don't know if I would give her a reduction. I thought you were doing 3 under 50 or 1 under 40. It seems she came up easily.

Let's see what others think.
Yep...that's what we do...3 x under 50 and she's earned a reducie...except I'm having a bit of a time getting her to stay above 50...seems like the sharks call is strong today...:eek::eek:

3 hours and she's still bouncing around under 50...and just hit the 40 mark. We're testing every 30 minutes until she gets away from the sharks...

It has to be under 50 on 3 different days.
REALLY? I've always counted it as many times as she goes under 50 or under 40 on the same day as 'individual' times...I'll re-read the stickie to make sure I'm not misreading that...thank you for the reminder! :bighug:

I've posted a question at the top of my condo...the Stickie isn't clear to me...hoping others will weigh in...thanks for bringing that to my attention!

See "Reminder: *earning* reductions and starting OTJ trials". Link found at the bottom of the THE BASICS: NEW TO THE GROUP? START HERE! sticky:

Newly diagnosed diabetics - less than one year since diagnosis
  • reduction *earned* after a single drop below 50 mg/dL and following TR, or
  • reduction *earned* after 3 drops between 40 - 50 mg/dL on three separate days for kitties who have shown they do not hold reductions well and following TR, or
  • reduction *earned* when the cat regularly has its lowest BGs in the normal range of a healthy cat (50 - 80 mg/dL) and stays under 100 mg/dl overall for at least one week and following TR.
  • reduction *earned* after a single drop below 90 mg/dL for those following SLGS
Long term diabetics - more than one year since diagnosis
  • reduction *earned* after a single drop below 40 mg/dL for those following TR, or
  • reduction *earned* after 3 drops between 40 - 50 mg/dL on three separate days for kitties who have shown they do not hold reductions well and following TR, or

Hope this helps...

I believe she will NOT get a reduction tonight - based on this 'reduction *earned* after 3 drops between 40 - 50 mg/dL on three separate days for kitties who have shown they do not hold reductions well and following TR, '
unless she goes below 40 - she should be reaching her nadir now or very soon...
She's had difficulty holding reductions - which is why we adopted the protocol of 3 x below 50.

Thank you @Mandy & Rex for pointing that out to me!
Thank you @Jill & Alex (GA) for pointing me to the information I need for the next time!

:bighug::bighug::bighug:

I just want to make sure you are successful in this marathon! :bighug:
I really do appreciate you pointing out the error of my ways! If our members didn't do it...I would be blindly going along my inaccurate path! I certainly don't want to keep giving her reductions based on what I 'thought' was correct!

What would we ever do without one another for support and advice? Now I know...

And tomorrow it'll be something else...I'm sure...but it's all good - I'm hoping for one of those OTJ parties myself.. I know Luci sure would love one :) :)
