? Dose increase?

I would love some advice. As of this evening's dose, Ninja has been on insulin for full 6 days. His numbers are still really high on one unit. Should I wait one more day (to make it seven) and increase his dose? Do I increase it tomorrow? By .25? Also, is it normal for a cat to not really come down much at all on 1 unit?

The measurements are done on AT; how dangerous is it that he's still so high at 1 unit?

I'm still trying to decide between TR and SLGS, but I'll take any and all advice you all have.
 
OK....in that case, I think you could increase tomorrow morning to 1.25

The 1U dose has gotten him into the 200's, so you'd only increase by .25

Then you'd hold the 1.25 for at least 6 cycles (for TR) unless he dropped below 68 on the AlphaTrak meter
 
You'll see the saying ECID - each cat is different. That includes how much insulin they need. Some need less than 1 unit, some need way more. So we start at a reasonable starting point, then increase safely until we get to a dose giving us the numbers we want. Even then, over time insulin needs can change. If you are following TR, you can increase to 1.25 units tomorrow. If you are following SLGS, wait one more day before increasing.

I wouldn't call Ninja's numbers dangerously high. Neko's were much worse to start, but she had two high dose conditions and needed a lot more insulin.

If I feel it’s safer to increase this evening, is that acceptable? (Since I’m home at night/evenings and can test as needed, all night if needed)

Got it, thank you! Can I switch to TR from SLGL or is it one or the other permanently?
 
Change when you want to. Some people start out SLGS to get comfortable with the whole process, then change once they get into the swing of things. Or circumstances change and they need to go a little slower and they switch to TR. Just put either SLGS or TR in your signature, so people know which one you are following.
