Hey everyone in Lantus land, this is the person I’ve been helping it with her kittie Garfie. She’s VERY new on computers, and new here with her first post......she’s Canadian and not familiar with the way to post but give her time like all of us had, and she will get it soon.

Her numbers are shown in both world and USA and the problem is that I’m in unfamiliar territory to give her strong advise on the dose. Garfie is now on .25 and he keeps going low and the SLGS says not to shoot, however im not sure skipping the dose each day is good when trying to get onto a dose that works.

Would it be better to reduce the dose, and understand the depot is building and there’s been bounces due to just starting out.

For a bit of history, look at the posts I did on her behalf under my name & Davidson’s and you’ll get the details there

Tomorrow is another day and please advise what dose or what you suggest when this situation comes up. FYI, she isn’t on the computer daily and has limited experience so at this time there is no SS or other info. I’ve asked her to start posting on her own so she can get help and get used to this forum - she’s trying so be nice, lol

So, need to know what to do in the case where the protocol says not to shoot, yet the kittie needs the insulin and to keep skipping sets her back to the start again......

Thanks,

Welcome! These wonderful people are great and a lot of help.
I’m not gonna give dose advise but wanted to welcome you and kitty

Are you sure she's doing .25 and not 2.5?

How about trying .1? Do you think you can help her with that dose?

What is the feeding schedule? Are you giving any food between shots?

Welcome :bighug:

Oh, the link to the spreadsheet in the signature isn't working.

Yes, she’s got the right dose, she is fully aware of how to do it, I showed her how and if you read the history you’ll see Garfie was close to hypo several times so the dose is dropped.

Feeding is at amps and pmps with a small amount an hour after shot time, then in the night he gets food 4 hrs after that.

The spread sheet is fixed now in her signature, I’m on the phone with her trying to assist. It’s not filled in yet....

Just need dose for tomorrow or confirmation to decrease and not skip

I can see the spreadsheet from the link now.

Really need to be able to find a dose that can be consistently shot both AM & PM.

Do you use syringes with 1/2U marks? Do you think you could shoot 0.25U? I found it helpful to use colored water to practice drawing up a smaller dose. I also left a "sample" syringe with the colored water to compare to with the actual insulin dose.

spreadsheet is up but has no info in it....

If I'm seeing it correctly, the Lows you are talking about are right near 100.....

I would advice going to a lower dose that can be shot twice a day and watching closely .... you can always increase again if needed.

Please give us more information like how long on insulin?
Was the diet just changed?

having problems with spraedsheet it wont let me put info on it. my low was at shoot time was 133.2 but according to the glgs it says not to shoot blow 150. he started canninsulin in february 2018 i have recently switched to lantus july 20 2018. diet was changed to strictly fancy feast pate. approx a month ago i am not always have access to computer so please direct answer to shawna and davidson

little by little , you will start shooting lower than 150..... preferably with one of us online with you the first time.... The goal is lower numbers under 100 but above 50....

Someone, ( i'm not very good at it) will help get that spreadsheet working correctly..... meanwhile, keep a record of the numbers so you can plug them in when it is running correctly.

I would suggest ( my opinion) is to not go all the way down to 0.1 unit but to shoot just a little less than that 0.25 .... go just short of that imaginary halfway point since there is no mark on the syringe..... just try to memorize what it is and shoot it again. This is what we would call a skinny 0.25 u.... just a smidge less .
My reason for this is that you aren't too low yet.... the numbers are good .... and you do want them slightly lower ....
By skinnying up the dose, you can continue shooting, continue monitoring and not lose any progress while you get all the issues resolved.

I only saw the lows she had at the beginning of this post..... Thank you for clarifying....

I would still decrease some ( skinny it up) and monitor... see if we can't get a little consistency .... to be able to shoot every cycle....

Yes agreed and that's what I told Rebecca on the phone this evening.........better to shoot half a dose then no dose, when trying to find a dose to work with. Garfie is new to Lantus and with all the changes he needs to get on a schedule knowing his CG works full time and not able to test much during the day. I'll get a hold of Rebecca and advise half the dose......hopefully then the depot can get filled, and we'll see some good numbers.

Thanks!

Garfie was 342 at amps so she shot the full .25 dose........here are his full yesterday's numbers (until she gets her SS data entered)

July 28

Looking at his numbers from yesterday, I'd almost say he's due for an increase but with the SLGS method you may want him to stay at this dose a bit longer - please advise so I can let Rebecca know.

JULY 28 2018
amps 06:00 - 424.8
+1 - 388.8
+11.5 - 135

pmps 133.2
+.5 - 156.6
+4 - 153
+4.5 - 174.6
+5.5 - 207
+10 - 243

JULY 29
amps 342

*** he's been on this dose of .25u over a week now

Suggestions please?

Thanks,

I would get the spreadsheet moving. A recent new member (Patty, with kitteh Tucker) was not logged into google. One must be logged into the account to update the spreadsheet.
That post is here

I'm trying to get her to do it.........remember she has little or pretty much no computer experience. Meaning, she can type but getting around software and downloads, etc. is a mystery. I can only do so much for her and she knows she's got to get the SS going as the BEST HELP is here...........give it some time. Thanks for the post, I'll print it and get it to her
