Kitty on a mission! I wasn't going to test again already at +3, but he started tucking in to wet food without FortiFlora on it, so I knew something was up.

Speaking of FortiFlora, I'd always intended to wean him off of it, but he'll almost never eat wet food without it and sometimes wouldn't even with it. But I've learned that he is more likely to eat when he actually watches me sprinkle on some FortiFlora, so now I set the bowl down in front of him with the little packet in hand and say, "Sprinkles?" sort of like I'm a waiter with a pepper mill. Seems he's satisfied with a little less FortiFlora this way.

Reduce again? It would be back-to-back, but he had a BCS yesterday AM, so the depot is drained? The +4=58 is potato-flakes influenced.

I have a friend that used an empty fortiflora pkg to fake it for about 6 months - as long as kitty watched it being shaken, he ate just fine. :)

If I were you, I'd take the reduction - you can always go back up if it doesn't hold.

Did you know you can 'hide' rows and still have them available to see later? I suggest keeping roughly 2 1/2 months showing to make it quicker to view. Just highlight the rows you want to 'hide', right click to submenu and choose 'hide'. You can highlight the hidden area and choose 'unhide' to see if you need.

Love all those blues and greens!

I would not reduce again...as long as you're around and can test...just one time below 50; for us that would not earn a reduction already. But you know how your cat responds...If Felix does the same thing tonight/tomorrow, etc...then maybe a reduction is in order...I feel better if I can hold a dose for a few cycles...unless she's really hard to pull up out of those low numbers with carbs...then I 'let it ride'...but again - the key is you have to be able to test and watch him closely to see what effect the next 2 u dose will have...

Of course, as always you may get advice from experts far more experienced than I...and you also must do what you feel is best for Felix.:bighug::bighug:

We had been doing three times below 50, too, until the last couple weeks when he's been really looking for reductions. Those stretches of lime greens where it was hard to keep him buoyed up particularly spooked me (also not a fan of the lime green preshots!). Today he came up and has surfed nicely, though; not sure if that's because the whole context is different or whether, using potato flakes, I've found a better way to steer him. You've been having to hover over the greens lately, too!

Susan, this is 'unique' - I've just discovered that if I use one of the foods with potatoes as the starch, while it's listed at 19%, :woot: , Doc doesn't use it like 19%. I can stop a drop with a good tbsp and even out the run over about 3 hours on it instead of spiking it. I know in humans, potatoes don't hit as sudden as some of the other carbs altho' it lasts longer. It's weird that you just confirmed what I've been seeing.

You since you are following TR and Felix is a long time diabetic, I would not take the reduction yet. This could still be the 2.25 unit depot talking.

I used HC with potato for Neko. They were also lower phosphorus.

Gosh, you guys, two votes for the reduction and two votes against--and I agreed with everything each of you said! I did hold the dose; seems likely a bounce will come along to offset it for tonight anyway (although it hasn't commenced yet).

Yes, I don't know if you looked back at my threads, but I tried potato flakes for the first time just a few nights ago, and got that gentler, more sustained rise (mentioned in July 26 thread). Then I made the mistake of using potato flakes again yesterday morning to bring up a +12 that was too low to shoot; I should've used honey that time so that it was in and out more quickly.

Good to know. I'll look around for something like that ... although you know how Felix is about trying new things.

Hey Chef Felix, try some of those new potato dishes. You can jazz them up with your special crunchies!
That was one great Full Moon party that you hosted. I hope that a lot of kitties will want to join the Kitchen Krew.

Susan, I am usually in favor of holding a dose in situations when you could go one way or the other. It gives you a cycle or two more to observe.

Surf safe today, Felix!
