Stall : Advice please. 28 July Tucker AMPS 5.7 (103)

Now I am getting confused. We stalled Tucker for an hour this morning, so instead of getting his AM shot at 6, he got it at 7. So I tested Tuckers a few times when we got home but Kurt didn't do his shot until closer to 7pm.

Okay........ it sounded like you hadn’t given the insulin when you said “so when I feed him I go down to 4.5 tonight and then test him” when you wrote it a short time ago
I’m sorry he’s bouncing but I’m not surprised after all those greens. He’ll get back on track.

So after a PMPS of 12.1(218) and an unusually high +1 of 19.1(344) I decided to do a +5 before bed and got a 10.1(164). I think he is safe although he has fallen from 19 to 10 over the last 5 hours, so I'm not certain it's ok for me to go to bed or not!

That's a nice safe number and he's probably near his nadir point, so I think you should be safe to go to bed. You could you give him a small low carb snack now just to cushion him a little if you are concerned.

Tucker will be fine. The 10.1 is in the high blue range. It is highly unlikely he will drop real low tonight.

Thank you, It's 12:30 am and I'm going to have an early night. Up at 6 to see what surprised Tucker has in store for me! Thank you for your advice and support. :)

Jeff: Here we go again....I went to bed 6 hours ago at a 10.1 and woke up and tested him and he is 5.2. Advice?

@Bobbie And Bubba
I see Tucker is giving us low numbers again at the end of the cycle. He seems to be doing this often the last few days.
Seeing he is not moving up after the stall, do you think another reduction would be in order....or a 1/2 dose.? He certainly seems to be telling us he needs less insulin.

I have cancelled all plans today to stay home with my little man. After getting that 19 PMPS last night and then him dipping down to 10 at midnight......I sort of expected his number to be back around 13 this morning. This really surprised me and I realise I don't understand the 'depot' or nadir or anything as much as I thought I was learning! Like, Tucker seems to be "Nadir-Shmadir" I'll go low whenever I please! Sigh.......I'll do whatever the people who understand all of this suggest. I'm lost.

I'm not comfortable to tell you to shoot 92 with 4.5 units. Personally, I would go back to 2.5. HA! I see Bron just posted the same. Can you monitor him today?
Hi Bobbie! I agree with a half dose if Patty can monitor all day.
I think she needs to be getting a +10 or 11 each cycle at the moment to give a heads up for the preshot.

So you are saying to feed him and give him 2.5? (I had been told to go down to 5 the other day.) What do you mean I need to get to a +10 ? Sorry, I'm confused. He's crying his head off for food so am I good to do something?

@Bobbie And Bubba
Bobbie and I both think you should give a half dose which would be 2.25 units. So feed first then shoot..do that, I'll explain what I mean about the +10 later. You will need to get a +1 and a +2 (in an hours time and 2 hours time) to see how he is going...then more tests after that

Just realised I have said a half dose and @Bobbie And Bubba said 2.5 which is a bit more than a half dose. Sorry Bobbie. Hope you are ok with that. I hung off for a bit hoping you would come back online but you have obviously got caught up.

I'm back on. It was naptime here. Never seem to catchup.
2.25 if not dosed yet. I'm also fine with 2.5. We just want some insulin in the little-sugar-sweetie.

That's fine. It's monitoring time. I betcha he gobbled the whole can. Keep the gravy can and karo handy.

Put comment in right side
AMPS +1 dosed 2.5

I think you'll be okay with 2.5. I went

Right now, it is so difficult to know what the depot is doing after a skipped dose and then a reduction. We are all navigating through his lead in the dance.

That is funny. Something has changed in him. Did you recently change his food to much lower low carb? He is definitely on a mission. Once we can get Mr. Nadir-Shmadir a bit more stable we can figure out what would be a good dose to hold onto. But, right now we are following his lead.

I am glad you will be around today to monitor him.

He had been eating a raw diet we have here called "BARF".......I know......really a bad name. Just a few days ago he seemed to go off of BARF so I have been feeding him the CORE very low carb food and also the lowest carb Fancy Feast Classic. He's not had carbs or dry food since April. Even at 5 units we were seeing lots of mid-teens going down to maybe the occasional 10....then we increased him to 5.5 and all of this hit and he went down into single digits quickly.

That is interesting. I remember reading a post in one of the stickies about some kitties doing better on a little higher carb food. Perhaps he is one of them. I am assuming BARF is all protein and zero carbs? I am getting dinner right now so I will try and find that link about higher carbs and some kitties for you to read.

Patty here is the link about low carb vs lower carb food. Give it a read and see what you think.

It's interesting that the lower numbers came right when he went off the BARF and onto the some food with carbs. Maybe it's a coincidence, maybe not. Something changed. Was it this or was it insulin resistance breaking as Jeff and Bron had mentioned ? Or did he just hit his dose and snapped? I don't know but what ever happened, it is wonderful!

Glad that your schedule is flexible and that you can monitor him more.

How's his BGs right now? Any more test in?

Little Dude (kitteh), Theresa (bean), Trinket (doglet). Trinket is a naughty rascal who can't seem to hold in pee. Theresa was doing yoga on towels last night. Trinket came over and peed on the towel (20 minutes after the outside pottee break).

I am glad to see this old thread is locked. This is a recent policy I requested, and it was approved. Threads older than 6 months get locked so that the thread doesn't get new comments. I am glad to see the automatic policy is now working. We can always start new threads and reference the old thread, as was done here.

Tricket: That is rude! Even if Momma is doing Downward Facing Dog, that is not an invitation for you to make the area, yellow.......
