Porto doesnt want to eat this morning. First time when it happens like this, he doesnt even want to smell the food... He had a good poo half an hour ago but something is bothering him. Im thinking vet if he keeps like this but what about the shot? Do I shoot? He eats 8 portions/day and last one, which was 3 hours ago, he ate no problem....

I gave the shot as the BG was rising and will keep an eye but he is still not eating. Gave a bit of gravy and he did like that but not the solid food.
Gonna call the vet in a few hours.

Without much appetite, still. Ive been trying everything. I suspect is a tooth ache? Just by the way he is eating, like something is bothering. Or maybe, could be just the food.
Tooth ache could be really bad because Im not sure if he can have surgery with his diabetes not being regulated.
We have a vet app tomorrow at 13 pm, the earliest they could give us.

Im almost shaking.
Never saw him so stubborn in not eating. :(

Have you tried zofran ( ondansetton) for nausea.? Keep offering food.
I think they do unregulated cats dentals.
Maybe you could start another thread and ask that question?

No, we haven´t tried it. I am going now to the pharmacy but Im not sure if I can get it without prescription.

It will be an eternity until tomorrow. I just had a look at his mouth and he does have a tooth where I suspect is bothering him. And two days ago I noticed a little spock of blood on his lower lip, thought it must be the acne, as he developed some as result from the prednisolone. But now, Im thinking it was the tooth.

Should I post here with the question about tooth surgery or in the health forum? Not sure.
Thank you for helping, Bron!!!

Hi there. I am so sorry your boy isn't feeling well. Sounds like a vet visit is in order. If it is a toothache, the pain will make the numbers soar. I have had experience with tooth aches. Some of the symptoms are :

excessive drooling
moving the head from one side to the other while eating
dropping the food from their mouth
making a grinding noise with their teeth
pawing at the face

IF it is a toothache it needs to be addressed. Regulation isn't going to happen without the bad tooth being taken care of because pain results in higher numbers.

Try some all meat baby food, one that has no vegetables. It is easy for them to lap up. Keep us posted.

Thank you so much Bobbie and Buba!!
I am so afraid to try other foods because of his IBD and what may happen (vomits, diarrea). Right now I see his BG is high and he has been eating little so it must be the pain. If the BG becomes an issue, I will feed with force although last thing I want.

He has been pawing at the face when eating, on that side. And spitting food out the mouth. I thought it is the dry food (that I grind and mix with the wet and he doesnt like it) bothering and stopping in his teeth because of the texture.
So naive! Now I am almost certain the culprit for all this is that tooth...

Anything I can give him for the pain? I am going to the pharmacy and I know someone who may be able to give me meds without prescription but what to ask for that is safe to give today for the pain, just for him to hold on a bit longer and relaxed until the vet app tomorrow.

It does indeed sound like a tooth pain issue. In the past the thing that has helped Bubba has been Buprenorphine which is a narcotic so you might have trouble getting it w/o a RX. Maybe someone else can weigh in for some other pain med.

With his IBD I understand you hesitate to try any thing else but it is important that he eats due to the diabetes. The baby food would be nice and pure for him or you could poach a little chicken breast and then grind it up for him and add some of the poaching liquid to it.

Sending you lots of good luck for the appointment tomorrow. :bighug:

Thank you for your recommendation, they dont give that medicine without prescription. Not sure if we should go to the emergency vet, I am a bit wary of vets, especially those I dont know. Even with my vet, I learned to check and double check everything. He looks bothered and hiding but he yawns and stretches when he gets up so if he were really uncomfortable and in great pain, I dont think he would stretch his bones.
I just dont want him in pain.

I mixed two table spoons of his wet food, with water, which resulted in a liquid, and he licked half of that. Is not really great but it is something. Better than having to force feed.

Thank you so much Bobbie!

@Bobbie And Bubba , one more question... his BG is almost 400, if he eats 1/2 ration until tomorrow, can I still give the dose? If the PMPS is still high, should I shoot, even if he doesnt eat well? Never confronted with this issue before. Thank you for any input!

Usually, we say if you can get them to eat at least 1 table spoon of food, you can shoot. And then hopefully you can get some more food into him. And with his numbers that high, I would shoot even with the eating being off right now. Just keep monitoring him through the cycle after you shoot like you always do.

Keep watering down the food to make it soupy so it's easier for him to lap it up off the saucer. Poor boy....... Tomorrow can't get here fast enough. I wish he could be seen by the vet today. :bighug:

Thank you so much!
I wish it was possible we see the vet today but unless I go to ER, not possible. He will stress a lot if we go to the ER and seeing him now, even with little eating, he doesnt look as distressed as he would be if we go to the ER. Im still weighting choices tho, if he gets worse by tonight and it seems like a necessity, we will go.

Thank you again!! :bighug:

I understand the frustration of having your food options limited with IBD.

Vet vines for tomorrow.

Yes, I ¨met" Jones on the forum and saw we are in the same pot. It is so hard and so frustrating! Here, in Spain, there are so little options for IBD cats on the market. No commercial raw is the hardest, cant even try to see if it works for him...
Thank you so much, Tracey, and I really hope Jones is feeling better, sending love and hugs from us!

He wants and eats Royal Canin kibble, no problem. No chewing required in that, I assume? He just gulps them down. Problem is he is off that for issues of vomit and loose poo. Hopefully it triggers nothing.

Im not sure if he can have surgery with his diabetes not being regulated.
My Neko's first dental she was unregulated. I think it depends on the comfort level of the vet whether they are willing to do a dental when unregulated. The sad part is that dental issues often make it hard to regulate a cat. I hope you can get him into the vet soon. I used buprenorphine too for pain. Pain meds will need a vet visit.

Have you tried a bit of plain raw food? Then you can add a premix later to make it a complete meal, if he can accept the raw protein. Or pulverizing a bit of the dry food and sprinkling it on the wet for flavour?

Just a few hours away and we find out how the vet wants to deal with it. What worries me is that the holidays are around the corner and he may not be able to do the surgery now? Maybe they will even suggest not doing it now because of other reasons but knowing fully they can not because they are on holiday. I am quite paranoid with vets and dont trust them. By now I know for sure is the teeth by the way he has been eating the foods between las night and this morning. He doesnt chew and when he does hit that tooth I suspect, he has a reaction to it, is def bothered.

Thank you for the suggestions, Wendy! I am giving wet food mixed with moist kibble of Royal canin and boiled water from horse meat I bought. The liquid, he gives it a try or two and then moves along. The horse meat, he loves. But I think it is because he can eat it, I break small pieces of meat and he just swallows. I would have to buy a premix as Ive never tried and wanted to first pass him from dry kibble to wet which I almost did if it werent for the teeth issue.
The reason I still need to mix the horse meat with something else, with carbs, is because he is on a diet made of 20% carb and 7% carb. Horse meat would add none and he is already dropping.
