Bellas brother has been throwing up several times a day and small amounts of loose stool, took the vet and he has no parasites and he told me to give him miralax, this was several months back, he is continuing to throw up and loose stool, he throws up,after eating, I can not afford all the tests, is there anything I can try, I read that prednisone helps of which I have, also tried giving him pumpkin and he will not eat it
What can I try

Try the Jarrow brand. It is referenced here on the IBDkitty.net site. http://www.ibdkitties.net/supplements/probiotics/

I also find Slippery Elm Bark seems to help Jones (even with all his other meds). I do the pill form as he will not eat it in his food.

If that fails I would see about a nausea medication. Jones will throw up without his cerenia. I tried to wean him down to every second day...and he vomitted every second day.

I also read somewhere not to use pumpkin on an IBD cat, just can't recall where at the moment.

ETA: it was in the ibdkittie link that it says no pumpkin.

Slippery elm – uses today
The major use for slippery elm today is for soothing the bowel in conditions of inflammation – especially colitis and IBS – irritable bowel syndrome. It is also similarly helpful in other inflammatory bowel conditions such as diverticulitis and diverticulosis.

Slippery elm Bark is such a specific remedy for helping these conditions that it is almost a crime that doctors and hospital don’t make more use of it. It will often soothe the pain of patients suffering these ailments within a couple of hours. This is not a case of the slippery elm powder hiding the pain; by soothing the inflamed area, the pain – a signal from the body that something is wrong – simply goes away because there is no need for it.

I have it ready to give as soon as he comes from under the bed, he knows somethings up, I also go the organic, chicken baby food I told me about, syringe ready, also got Stella and chewys beef broth, he won’t eat the chicken DH made, also got probiotic

Did you do the pill form or with some food?
The probiotic was like a treat but he wouldn’t eat it so I crumbled it up and put with baby food same with slippery elm, he did eat some ff gravy left from bellas can, he ate all of it and it hasn’t come back up, might have to resort to ff gravy if he keeps it down then gotta watch you know who:eek: from getting it, I don’t leave contraband down ever

OK, I would start with some bone broth or with the plain chicken in the link I sent you.

First, remove ALL regular food and feed a bland diet. Do NOT feed your kitty her normal food. With the diarrhea, the food is just rushing through her not providing much in the way of nutrition anyway. The bland diet removes any possible dietary sources of upset, and is very easy for your cat to digest. Use the (unenhanced) chicken or turkey breast or pork loin (trimmed of excess fat) to make a bland, simple, low-fat food. Poach the meat in enough water to cook the meat and make a bit of broth. When cooked, either shred the meat, cut or chop it finely, or put it in a food processor or blender with the water used to poach it.
For the slippery elm...

Slippery elm bark powder directions: mix one-quarter teaspoon of loose powder with one-half teaspoon water. Stir until all the powder is mixed with the water. Let it sit for a minute or so. You will see it becomes thick and gelatinous. You can add this to kitty’s plain meat and broth if she’s eating when you are using it to treat diarrhea. If she’s a bit nauseous or inappetent, give it to her about half an hour before a meal, just swipe a little bit at a time into her mouth with your finger (allow her to swallow before swiping in a bit more to get it all (or most of it) into her). You can also add a bit more water as necessary in order to use a food syringe to gently assist-feed your kitty the slippery elm bark/water mixture. During a bout of diarrhea, you can use this mixture three times a day.

Please note, the gelatinous mixture can slow the absorption of any drugs your kitty may be taking. Please separate administration of slippery elm bark powder and any medications by two hours.

What I do is use the pill...1/8 SEB with 1/4 Aloe Vera Juice - mix as per above. Then I actually spread it on the top of Jones' mouth so he has to lick it down. Takes practice to get it in and smooshed up quickly.

Is your kitty drinking and keeping fluids down?

Another thought...maybe by cooking some chicken it will help with smell...maybe entice him to eat.
DH cooked a whole organic chicken for like 8 hrs and he would not eat it, so I got Stella and chewys bone broth and I mixed it with organic chicken baby food and syringe fed him with the probiotic and slippery elm, so I will give the slippery elm first and then feed, he did eat bellas left over ff gravy and so far so good

I will take away all normal food do broth and chicken separate is that ok? Of course the slippery elm, should I give probiotic?

Tracy, what he does is goes to litter box, poops just a little, then gets out and pukes, vet said he was not blocked he did anal exam and said it was tight to give miralax but it didn’t do anything, they want to do a lot of tests, blood work, X-rays, ultrasound and I can’t afford that

Sounds like a plan. I would give the S. Bourdalli.

I'm not sure what that means. Blockage of some sort? In the intestines? Maybe that is why he suggested the x-ray. I had a ragdoll once that regurgitated his food. Checked him out with all the tests...nothing. It was determined he just had an easy gag reflex. He always ate well though.

Gross question, what is the vomit like?
