On 7/10 I noticed Franky was more lethargic, and had blood in her urine. I tested her and she read HI. I'm using the Alpha Trak meter. I gave her 1 unit of insulin. We took her to the vet where he gave her 100cc IVFs, 2 more units NPH insulin, and a shot of Baytril Metacam. He put her on Baytril Enrofloxacin for 14 days. We've been checking her sugar mutiple times a day (you can look at the spreadsheet) and monitoring it as closely as we can unless we are at work. She is urinating much better and has no more blood in her urine. She is acting more herself. However, her sugars are still very high. We took her to another vet today for a 2nd opinion. She drew a BMP, CBC, Fructosamine, and Pancreatic enzymes. We don't have the results of those yet. She said physically Franky is healthy. She discussed possibly switching her from NPH to Lantus because she prefers Lantus. She also said she doesn't really trust me checking her sugar at home because she thinks the numbers could be inaccurate- thinking that every time I check her I am stressing her out. In my opinion, I don't think this is the case. I believe her numbers are accurate, she never seems stressed while I'm checking her, she literally just sits there. Anyway, I just wanted some other opinions on if I should be doing anything different.

Why does she think the numbers would be inaccurate? You are even using an Alphatrak, right? That is the meter most vets use! DEFINITLY keep testing and if you can, at up a spreadsheet. I agree with her though that lantus is probably a better insulin for your cat then NPH.

She said that Franky's sugar probably spikes right before I check it. I am using the Alphatrak and I know it's accurate! I am definitely going to keep testing her frequently. I updated her spreadsheet so it's organized by year now. I just want Franky to get better.

I agree with what JanetNJ said.

Definitely keep testing! Not testing and shooting blindly is what's inaccurate and may be dangerous.

I also agree that Lantus may be better.

What food are you feeding?

I don't know much about that food but guessing the Zero means zero carbs?

My kitty did not do well at all on zero carb food and has done much better with lower numbers on food that has some carbs. Just something to think about.

if you want variety Dr Elsey chicken is less that 5% net carbs (people on the forum say YA is about 5% ). My boys love it with no negative reactions. I agree to test too :cat:

Just what do you mean? Baytril is an antibiotic that comes as an injectable as well as pills. Baytril is the trade name for Bayer's Enrofloxacin antibiotic.
Meticam, on the other hand is a pain/anti-inflammatory med.
