Managed to Get a Mid-Cycle Reading

So we got a mid-cycle test done today at +5 (almost +6) hours after giving his shot this morning. His number was 345, so it didn't go down much from this morning. Please give me your advice on what to do with his dosage.

I honestly can't tell you guys how grateful I am for this forum and for all of the help and support you guys give.

Yay for the first mid-cycle test! I have no experience with Humulin N, but I read in the sticky post at the top of that forum that nadir (lowest point in cycle) can be from 2 to 6 hours after the insulin shot, and for most cats is between 3 and 5 hours after. So, maybe you could try to grab your mid-cycle tests at different times to start to figure out when the lowest point is for Victor. I will definitely try doing the mid-cycle tests at different times each day. Victor can get pretty uncooperative when we test, so I don't think it'd go well if we tried to get tests for those hours all in the same day, in addition to the AMPS/PMPS and bedtime tests. Not looking forward to the first time we try to do a curve

And yeah, I need to remember that the ISG section is a better place to get dosing advice.

Also - question for anybody - I know people have said that using Vaseline when you poke the cat's ear makes the blood bead up easier, so I'm assuming you apply it before you poke? Do you just use your finger to put it on their ear?

Oh, yes, that is what I meant... do it at different times in different cycles to start to build up enough data to figure out when he is lowest.

Curves do give you great data.. for that, you normally test every two hours for an entire cycle.. but you can work your way up to that.

Yes I put it on before the poke. And yup just use your finger and rub a thin layer where you are going to poke and it helps it bubble tremendously. I also put a small layer when I'm all done too, after I apply pressure to stop the bleeding.
