Injection Site Lumps

Last year Eddie developed a lump between his shoulder blades at his injection site. We took him to a specialist to make sure it was not a sarcoma, being it was located where he is chipped. It was a benign lipoma. Well, we have not injected him there since then. We give shots in shoulders, rotating a.m. & p.m. He now has lumps at each injection site. I don't know if we should have these surgically removed too. Has anyone else experienced injection site swelling, scars or lumps? We have tried shooting him near the rear legs but he's very unhappy with these shots. I don't know if type of insulin (Vetsulin) or needle plays a role in this or not. He's been diabetic for almost 4 years.

Also, is there a preference for pain control for arthritis? My vet is recommending gabapentin or adequan. His kidney numbers have continued to stay good and steady but I worry over side effects and adequan is FDA cleared in treatment of dogs only though effective in cats.

I don't have any input regarding the lumps, but I was just researching CBC oil because someone mentioned that in a post today, recommending it for pain. The site I was reading recommended the oil for arthritis, IBD, calming, among others. I have never used it, but certainly would consider it for arthritis or IBD if those conditions develop in Idjit. BTW, that picture of Eddie is wonderful.

Thanks for input will definitely look into this oil! Eddie is a very handsome boy & he know it!
 
My Maverick did have some lipomas at site injections a while back, they just got reabsorbed over time, but I had to move around them for new injections until they went away...it was maybe a week or so to see some improvement. From what I recall with gabapentin when I used it for my old dog, it was better for controlling nerve pain, you might try searching the forums for gabapentin and adequan, I know there are a few members who have used them.

Thanks, I have re-read Vetsulin insert and it does mention "dermal events" which could include swelling and bruising at injection site. I guess I will start with trying to move shots to rest quarters again. Since his surgery, he has no scruff left, so that's no longer an option and I guess have at least a needle biopsy of these new lumps if they do not reabsorb.

I have begun to search forum on arthritis med choices. I am kind of liking the idea of CBD oil. Thanks again.

If you are thinking it could be a reaction to Vetsulin maybe consider changing insulin?
 
Love your avatar!! That expression is priceless. Phoebe takes the gabapentin for her IBD and pancreatitis it also helps with her severe arthritis. She also gets bupe daily. Maybe that insulin switch will do the trick.

Thanks, Eddie is a treasure. He was abandoned in the neighborhood and was so determined to have a home he was chewing his way in through my neighbor's kitchen screen! She couldn't afford another cat, so we took him in and he has been a delight! Your girl is beautiful. Gorgeous eyes! Sorry she is battling so many things at one time. But thanks for the input. I've hesitated on the gabapentin over worries of side effects but we are at a point where cosequin is not enough so been investigating what's out there. Thanks again!
